It's a pretty building. But it looks so out of place in London. |

They're just shooting down the Sycorax ship before it can cause damage. |

phalamir: every farking settlement on Earth since the dawn of time There are people on Earth whose native architecture has experienced no shifts for untold centuries, in some cases to back before the Greeks even thought it would be cool to ring a building with columbs. Not every culture goes about figuring out how to make different looking structures as an exercise unto itself. Also, some things have come and gone and come back again... ![]() That's a rendering of what ancient Romans called an insula, it's what we call an apartment building. Doesn't look too far different from apartment buildings you see being built even today. Funny thing is, while a Roman from 2,000 years ago would have no problem getting what a modern apartment building is, the average European from 800 years ago? Whole other story. |

At least it doesn't look like some of the artistic abortions in Toronto, like the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal, or the OCAD. Strangers still see the OCAD for the first time, and think it's some kind of practical joke. |

At first I was going to congratulate the UK but then I read this piece of gem. Sad really.. UK or for the most part western Europe is slowly being colonized by Muslims form the middle east and northern africa. The £1.5billion project has been financed by Qatar. Abdullah Saoud al-Thani, Qatar Central Bank governor, said: "It's a symbol of Qatar's belief and commitment to London both today and in the future." |

Tallest building in London? Isn't that like being the tallest man in Japan? |

I don't think it means what you think it means |

I went to see this, and it was rubbish. A picture in the newspaper a few days before showed a whole array of lasers lighting up central London in all directions. In actuality there were three, and they only illuminated one side of the building with coloured floodlights. Probably got prevented from doing an epic laser show by some archaic British health & safety law. |

That giant cocktail fork would have been so much better if they had built it with a giant green olive skewered on the end. What's with all the Qatar-hate, Fark? You know where the money came from, right? |

I find it amusing that the official unveiling of the tallest building in a country whose ass we kicked twice used a song by an American composer. Aaron Copland - Fanfare For The Common Man |

Aaron Copland - Fanfare For The Common Man I think you'll find it's because we recognise a good piece of music when we hear it, whoever wrote it. Wit. Our Lord of the Dance (school hymn) was an adaptation of a USian song. |
