| Dejah DeGrasse. Why? We don't know Stephen Hawking's middle name, nor Albert Einstein's, nor Richard Feynman's. Even Brian Greene is content with two names. What's with the DeGrasse? |

It's the combination of Manhattan and Stonehenge. No it's the combination of Manhattan and henge. A henge is round. /what a moran |

Thank god they explained the origin of the word. I assumed it was Man Hat Tan Henge. Also there's no way the final shot was "speeded up 6000 times". |

Well, when white people go by all three names we sound like serial killers. /especially if that middle name is Wayne |

That's why? Not this http://deadspin.com/5919608/the-new-be st-place-for-a-home-run-derby-an -aircraft-carrier ? Hitting baseballs off an aircraft carrier into a crowd of jetskis is the most American thing in history. |

Came here for the same thing. When the "reporter" said that, I clicked back to reply because I thought I must have misheard. But nope... Explaining Manhattanhenge. 6000x. This dude is a pro. He needs to be over at FOX. |

Common names are an academic faux pas. You don't want your work to be confused with someone else's work. It's likely that "Neil Tyson" is a rather common name, so it's worth throwing in a middle name or initial to differentiate one's self. Hawking, Feynman, and Einstein aren't so common. |

William, none, and Phillip. And Brian Austin Green didn't use the e, and he wasn't a physicist, but a douchebag on 90210. |

Marshall Willenholly: Dude is awesome. I just wish he'd run for president, or get selected at White House science adviser. There's a fantastic speech of Neil Tyson back several years ago about him getting into science. The premise is how Tyson was discouraged from getting into astronomy because the black community had so many bigger issues to tackle. But in the end, he persevered to be the best astronomer he could be because he wanted to show...that he could help the black community by promoting science and education, through astronomy and discovery. Yea, it was a great speech. |

I'm told you can tell the content of someone's character by the kind of inane questions they feel like asking when something altogether more interesting is being discussed. |

Stonehenge was a word before henge. They backwards made up the word henge to describe other stuff too. Kind of like -gate for any scandal. |

Actually it's doubtful there will be any anthropologist thinking that, unless of course they still have nut bag conspiracy theorists types in the future. The reason we look back at things from the past and wonder what it meant or how it was build etc. is because there was no reliable forms of recorded history, a problem we no longer have. As a race of people we have managed to get quite good at documenting every little thing we do, especially now in the internet age, and I imagine it will only get better and more in depth as time goes on. |

From what I can tell, it's a family thing. His father was Cyril deGrasse Tyson (and yes, the d is supposed to be lower case, the headline has it wrong) |
