OK, so punching in rough numbers, a non-stop one way flight from LA to NY would cost each person $500. The cheapest non-stop one way I found commercially is $575. However, I can get commercial non-stop round trip (leaving today and coming back a week from today) for $840. Adding in a $50 baggage fee each way brings it up to $940. Your way would be $1000. A difference of +$60.

I guess it comes down to whether you are willing to pay a little extra to not have to deal with the TSA and to have a little more room, and the beer of course. But then you have to manage to find 100 people who want to go where you are going at the same time you want to go there, as well as come back when you want to come back. Easy enough I suppose in a big city, or if you have a large family all going on a trip together, etc. but it still isn't very practical otherwise.

Last time I was on a United flight they got onto the runway at Shanghai Pudong and announced "Oh umh we forgot to check the radar, we have to go back". Flight got in three hours late and an entire 777 load of people missed connections. fark United.

Includes flight crew and fuel. There are no stewardesses....sorry, "flight attendants". Prices were quoted to me by ElleJet Charter service. I was pretty surprised myself.

Sounds like you understand it perfectly. Not practical for individuals, but for businesses who have regular flight travel needs it might be very beneficial (as well as more pleasant for your employees) to band together and go with charter flights rather than commercial.

Depends on the carrier. Aircraft seats are attached to the floor using a rail system, so a carrier can add or remove rows during any maintenance window. The number of rows determines the amount of legroom you get.

One thing I've heard about the new 737s is that they made the airframe thinner, so the interior diameter of the cabin is larger. That should allow for an extra inch of width to a coach seat. It isn't much, but it is nothing to sneeze at.
