Ugh. And they don't even let you unlike things on your edit personal profile page anymore. You have to go to each individual page.

Not that I don't enjoy being lied to daily on Facebook that Obama and Congress are exempt from Obamacare (Page Doesn't Matter, Line Who Cares You Lying F*ck), but I don't.

This is why I don't "like" anything. I'm not going to make it easy for advertisers to figure out what I like and I'm not going to make it easy for people to hijack my postings, either.

Facebook should rig up a downvote button. It doesn't even have to actually do anything. It would just make me feel better if I could click it.

I have a Facebook friend I had hidden from my newsfeed, so I was unpleasantly surprised when a post from FreedomWorks showed up under his name a few weeks ago. Of course, I probably should have clicked the post, since it was liveblogging the Obamacare SCOTUS decision, and would probably have been hilarious.

If Facebook is doing so much crap that so many people dislike, why are you all still on it? That sounds like a serious addiction.

I mean, yeah, I'd like to be able to keep in contact with old acquaintances occasionally, but to me it isn't nearly worth all of the hassle that facebook brings. Facebook must be really farking great to make up for all of this crap I keep reading.

The privacy shiat is actually a problem. This kind of nonsense, though, people just like to whine about. It barely rises to the level of "annoyance". It's easy to kick people who post this shiat off your feed. If you don't want to do that, you're allowed to just keep on scrolling right on by. If you can't handle that, you're the problem.

This kind of crap only gets to be a serious problem to people who treat their friend count like a video game score. If you don't give a shiat what a person says in real life, you should not care about what they say on Facebook.

Because only they understand that if it wasn't for those pesky brown untermenschen ruining everything around them, they'd be employed, making millions per year, and they could drink all they want because their chauffeur would do the driving. Money would just flow into self-sufficient white people's pockets as a result of their holy birthright (and inherent boot strappiness).

My favorite is the guy who has a felony conviction for stealing his ex-boyfriend's absentee ballot to vote for George W. Bush in 2000 who keeps blaming Obama and the Democrats for his unemployment. I'm pretty sure it would be easier to find a job if he'd actually finished the Poly Sci degree and didn't have a felony voter fraud conviction.

According to the article you can't just kick the particular friend off your feed:

Unfortunately, that's not the end of it. Bott notes that if you're on the receiving end of these messages, good luck stopping them from appearing in your News feed. Blocking individual stories as they appear is one thing, "but you can't block the page from posting again, and again, and again. And even if you remove the friend completely from your news feed, the forcibly shared posts appear. The only way to stop it is to unfriend the person whose Facebook identity is being misused."

A friend of mine "liked" Huffington Post when he started using Facebook.

About two weeks ago, in my feed I see him sending out a story about Sarah Palin -- we're both Alaskan -- from Huffington Post.

The problem is, my friend died several months ago.

This displeased many people.

It's a big deal because it's a new way to spam, and it's not just political speech.

Like one of the games? Someone on my list liked "Pot Farm." Now Pot Farm sends out articles to people who "liked" it, to get around the fact that people block their app when they see all the spam in the first place.

Gizmodo isn't particularly political. They are now paying FB to spam through everyone who "likes" them.

Folks who were talking about it in my circles (after my dead friend started posting from the grave, it kind of drew our attention to the topic) are "unliking" anything that starts spamming their friends like this.

I'll take this one: Some of us have douchbag friends who don't seem to understand the concept of a text message or email when they are having parties/events, despite not being on facebook and then they get pissed when you don't show up. Recently re-upped after 2 years away from it and it's worse than ever.

Facebook is farking horrible, you can't even prevent people from tagging you in their stupid, insipid narcissistic self-indulgent bullshiat anymore, instead you have to remove the tags after the fact. "I WAS AT MCDONALDS WITH 8 OTHER PEOPLE!" Good for you, you aren't that goddamn important. Go outside and actually do something worthwhile for a change.

I don't personally use it for anything beyond the occasional dick and fart joke comment.

I don't think that's what this article is about. The article is claiming that the organizations will make posts in your name to your friends without your permission. I don't think that's reasonable behavior from something that you "like."

And will continue to do so after you're dead.

Our current decision, as friends of the departed, is between losing access to all of our shared content and memories with our suddenly departed loved one, and seeing his image broadcasting advertisements into our newsfeed daily.

Our dead friend should not be a product logo.

The problem isn't them making posts about politics, the problem is Facebook taking their posts (about politics or otherwise) and spamming your friends' news feeds with them.

It's not really about politics specifically; it's whatever single-minded stream of automated chatter the liked page is generating. One of my FB friends likes a couple of religious affirmation pages, which is fine, because I respect people's personal faith and all, but the daily flood of posts from these things in my newsfeed is like some kind of farking tribble infestation. Seriously, people. Think of the analogy to real life. Every time we show up at some get-together with friends, you push your collection of inspirational rainbows-and-sunbeams pamphlets at me, and go on and on about Jesus being my friend and Jesus carrying me and Jesus this and Jesus that, and eventually I will start avoiding you. I don't want to do that, because I value your other good qualities, but I do have my own sanity to consider.

But which type of posts are they?

Let's call her Betty, and the page "Inspiration."

Is it: Betty likes a post at Inspiration
(Link content)

or

Betty likes Inpiration
(Post Title)
(Link content).

Betty at least has to press the button on every post she likes for the first one. That is Betty annoying the piss out of everyone with her stupid political/religious/cooking/weapons/wh atever zeal.

For the second one, Betty probably doesn't know about it. She might not have logged on in months. She may have been dead for years. What the second one stands for may change over time, but your account will still tell everyone how much you like it, over and over again.

Yeah, I have about 90% of my Facebook "friends" hidden, including most of my family. It still had a banner telling me my friends like Glenn Beck one day (with a long post from him), and then one about Mitt Romney the next. I looked for a "kill them with fire" button but just ended up leaving Facebook alone for awhile again.

My feed is basically just people I raided with in World of Warcraft a few years ago posting liberal political stuff. And my mother spamming with liberal political stuff, Disney World food, and occasionally weird Mormon shiat.

My Paultard friends always tend to be weird white guys who are typically pretty bright, but not nearly as smart as they think they are... usually from a middle-to-upper middle class upbringing.

That's a sure recipe for feeling entitled to a certain rank and standard of living... leading to frustration and resentment when it's not met... leading to coping with booze and refusing to accept any work that's "beneath" you.

Practically every Randroid or hardcore libertarian I know is a smug white guy who looks down on others from his lofty perch in $30k/yr. cubicle land.

I think the highest achiever in the bunch is a communications instructor at a D-list college.
