| While it's true Mitt Romney was CEO, sole owner, and managing director, he says he didn't have anything to do with Bain, so Obama is a liar. It's all laid out in this text wall of obfuscation |

| Bladel If Bain did something you like, then it was because of Romney's strong business leadership. If they did something you don't like, like lay off thousands or dispose of aborted fetuses, then he wasn't there. Why is this so hard to understand? From the other thread. |

When it comes down to it, Romney lied. He has to have lied, because he has openly contradicted himself with official SEC documents. So one of these must be true: Either Romney lied to the SEC and has committed a felony, or Romney lied to the American people. One of these simply has to be true. |

| Elandriel Is it me, or did TFA have an overly apologetic "nuh uh" tone to it for the first half, and a "caught with his hand in the cookie jar" in the second. The bias isn't instantly obvious, so I don't know how I am supposed to feel. Someone please find me a blond female news anchor to dumb this down and also lie about it. |

No matter what actually happened, it can be said with absolute truth that Romney lied and cannot be trusted. There cannot be any question now, and this isn't something small like flip-flopping. |

| Dinki Hmm - However, we have identified at least six filings that Romney did sign during this period: a April 13,, 1999 13D filing by Pirod Holdings regarding an investment in Rohn Industries; a Jan. 3, 2000 13D filing by VMM Merger Corp. regarding an investment in VDI MultiMedia; a Feb. 14, 2000 13G filing by Bain Capital Fund IV regarding Wesley Jessen Visioncare; a Feb. 13, 2001 13G filing by Bain Capital Fund VI regarding Integrated Circuit Systems; a Feb. 14, 2001 13G filing by Bain Capital Fund VI regarding ChipPAC; and a November 12, 1999 13G filing (first reported by Mother Jones) by Bain Capital Fund VI regarding Stericycle. These few filings may just represent the winding down of affairs. Or some might think there is something more nerfarious going on. But, remember, when Romney decided to run for governor in 2002, he received a retirement package that was dated Feb., 1999. (In effect, as of that date, he became an investor in Bain, not a partner.) If he had been working hard on these transactions, it would be strange for him to not demand payment for his services. Um, did they not even read their own article? The one thing new we saw in the Globe story was the assertion that "Romney's state financial disclosure forms indicate he earned at least $100,000 as a Bain 'executive' in 2001 and 2002, separate from investment earnings." |
||
| Weaver95 the GOP pundits are VERY unhappy about any discussion of bain capital. they're highly offended that the name is even spoken in public. which is weird, because Romney didn't do anything illegal. Romney should step up and embrace his actions with the company....why hide? |

Weaver95: apparently, we're not supposed to talk about Bain capital or something. Which is fascinating because we're talking about a candidate whose entire campaign that's doesn't consist of "I'm not the other guy," is "Government should be run like a business, and I have experience running a business." But when you start looking at how he ran that business or what he did, it's "This doesn't concern you!" |

I hate Mitt, but I really don't know that any of this means to much of anyone. Everyone knows Mitt is a liar and an opportunist. No one actualy likes or believes him, they just vote for him because he plays for Team Elephant and that's their favorite political team. |

So we're supposed to completely ignore Bain capital? I thought he was running as another CEO president. I guess we'll just have to talk about all the stuff he did as governor of Massachusetts then. I'm sure he had some big signature issue from that he wants to run on. |

You simple, simple unwashed masses....you simply don't understand the free market where you are paid for your contributions and abilities and on official papers you put your name on things and sign things for 3 years that mean nothing. Sometimes you get paid for doing nothing and having no responsibilities for years... not you of course but the truly special people, like Willard Mitt Romney. Sometimes you sign documents but have no responsibilities for what you sign for years.... not you of course but the truly special people, like Willard Mitt Romney. When rich, connected people get paid and have no responsibilities or duties it is the free market. When anyone else does that they are freeloading welfare queens. I know it is hard for you little people to understand, just trust your betters. |

So one of these must be true: Either Romney lied to the SEC and has committed a felony, or Romney lied to the American people. One of these simply has to be true. So Obama is a liar for pointing out that Romney may be a felon, but only because he may be a felon for lying to someone other than who he also may have lied to. |

| SphericalTime Later in the article: In 2011, Romney, as a presidential candidate, filed a public financial disclosure form, under pain of perjury, that stated: "Mr. Romney retired from Bain Capital on February 11, 1999 to head the Salt Lake Organizing Committee. Since February 11, 1999, Mr. Romney has not had any active role with any Bain Capital entity and has not been involved in the operations of any Bain Capital entity in any way." Earlier in the article: However, we have identified at least six filings that Romney did sign during this period: a April 13,, 1999 13D filing by Pirod Holdings regarding an investment in Rohn Industries; a Jan. 3, 2000 13D filing by VMM Merger Corp. regarding an investment in VDI MultiMedia; a Feb. 14, 2000 13G filing by Bain Capital Fund IV regarding Wesley Jessen Visioncare; a Feb. 13, 2001 13G filing by Bain Capital Fund VI regarding Integrated Circuit Systems; a Feb. 14, 2001 13G filing by Bain Capital Fund VI regarding ChipPAC; and a November 12, 1999 13G filing (first reported by Mother Jones) by Bain Capital Fund VI regarding Stericycle. Those two statements seem to contradict each other. FTA: We readily admit that there is grey area about Romney's involvement with Bain in the 1999-2002 period[.] That's putting it mildly. |

Romney should step up and embrace his actions with the company....why hide? He only has two things to run on, Bain and his stint at Massachusetts Governor. Now supposedly Bain is off the table? You really want to run on your experience at the helm of the Commonwealth where they were 47th in job creation and your only accomplishment was Romneycare? Hate to say it, but the Teabaggers were right in not wanting Romney. At least Santorum believed in his crazy and thus didn't see it as baggage. Romney is a disaster for both the middle class and base, and it's going to start effecting turnout on that base. At least with Santorum they had a shot at a 50.00001% victory. |

Romney in 2002, when he appeared before the Massachusetts State Ballot Law Commission : "When I left my employer in Massachusetts in February of 1999 to accept the Olympic assignment, I left on the basis of a leave of absence, indicating that I, by virtue of that title, would return at the end of the Olympics to my employment at Bain Capital, but subsequently decided not to do so and entered into a departure agreement with my former partners, I use that in the colloquial sense, not legal sense, but my former partners," . . . "There were a number of social trips and business trips that brought me back to Massachusetts, board meetings, Thanksgiving and so forth," The board meetings were for Staples and LifeLike, two companies Bain was heavily invested in. He was not severed from Bain in 1999. He thought he was coming back. There was no way he didn't have some input during the time before he changed his mind. He had previously taken two other leaves of absences where he DID come back, in late 1992, and another when he did his senate run in late 1993. |

If they did something you don't like, like lay off thousands or dispose of aborted fetuses, then he wasn't there. Why is this so hard to understand? From the other thread. Hey, you need to vote for a strong business leader that knows to run a sucessful business, the leader need to take firm hold of the reigns, step back and let others do their their thing. You need to be smart and saavy enough to know that you must remove yourself from the pesky details of what the business does and leave that to your delegates. THAT is why American CEOs are worth more than their counterparts in the rest of the world. They know that in order get the credit for having a great business, you must be totally ignorant and isolated from what it does. Worked for CEOs of Worldcom, AIG and Enron. That should be good enough for the Presidency. |

Like the Obamacare ruling I am getting the impression the conservasphere doesn't know how to approach this. I don't think team Romney saw this one coming. they figured it wasn't an issue, and that nobody would want to talk about it. seriously - to the 1% what Romney did with Bain capital is literally 'business as usual'. it's not even unique. But what's really hurting Romney is that his team flubbed the response. |
