And here's a White House petition asking the TSA to actually obey the court order it was given a year ago. Only 13,601 more e-signatures needed to earn a vapid meaningless response

I gotta agree with that sentiment subby. This petition the White House idea was a great one in theory but in actual practice, it's just a really farking stupid way of pretending what the public says matters. You've done a lotta good things Obama, this wasn't one of them.

Got no problem with people who want the TSA to follow the federal appeals court ruling.

Fark those guys.

While I'm totally on board with this petition, it will end the same way the MPAA/Chris Dodd petition did. The WH's response was that it can't comment on any specific case. It will just be a vaguely worded respose along the lines of "We support what you have requested but policy prohibits action" and nothing will happen.

What bothers me is this is an election year, and we the people have absolutely the most leverage we ever have on a candidate or President by asking questions at campaign rallies.

I'd love to see an effort to barrage the candidates with questions about the TSA.

Have any of these e-petitions actually done anything? Other than create a whole new list of fake names that is.

Created a database full of names to add to the no-fly list in this iteration.

Nothing new. I have always thought the TSA's actions to be contemptuous.

Yes, they've made it much easier for politicians to send out canned responses to everyone who signs them and have eliminated the PR issues associated with people dumping several dozen massive sacks of petition signatures on the front steps of the Capitol.

Marginally beats the "Big Block of Cheese Day" approach.

A petition from the WH to have an organization follow the law? WTF?

Hey, here's an idea:
"Dear Assholes:
Follow the law, or we'll remove your funding and/or start imprisoning your higher ups.
Sincerely,
WH"

Since when did the federal government need to ask the people to help enforce a law? I mean, if they are asking the people to enforce it directly, via go in there and perform citizens' arrests, I'm sure there will be a line so long it puts any Walmart in Alabama on Black Friday to shame, but still....

Dear WH:
You're the most powerful government on earth. You don't need to ask for 25,000 online signatures to enforce a federal law.
Regards,
Reality

It's a petition to the executive branch to get them to follow the law, basically (TSA is part of the executive).

Sadly that's all these petitions produce. They already have their minds made up, this is just around to make us layfolk feel like we have a voice. With marijuana the answer was "it's a serious drug" and with the Defund TSA one, the answer was written by the head of the TSA... well no shizzle, we know why YOU want to keep your job and your funding, but you still head an otherwise useless agency.

/but I signed it.
