For the #1 QB in the league? Damn right.

That said, if Brees had left the Saints, it would have felt like something Joe Pa had a hand in... filthy and immoral.

/And yes, #1, Rodgers isn't there yet.
//Brees has Tebow leadership/charisma. Rodgers isn't even close.
///One of the few times Tebow will be mentioned in the same sentence with either .

I know negotiations take a long time and typically go to the deadline, but this still seemed like an unnecessary PR hit the Saints put themselves through here. After Peyton signed his deal paying him 19.2m a year after being out of football with a serious neck injury, you figure getting to 20m with Brees wouldn't be such a tough task. I'm sure there were lots of considerations with guaranteed money and when that was to be paid, but a year and a half is a long negotiation.

I think you have Brees confused with Gregg Williams. They're different people, as far as I know.

They'll make the playoffs.. Brees has been running the offense for years. Defense is going to need some work but always has.. We're an offense team and have the #1 captain.

Make sure that shiat doesn't auto-renew on you next year at full price.

(It will, you have to actively remove it)

I was baffled as to why it was so drawn out, but now that I see the guaranteed number, I can understand why. Holy crap that's a lot.

Did anyone seriously doubt this would be done? Especially after Brees gained so much leverage through the offseason collapse? The only real surprise is that the mayor himself didn't offer up his wife and daughters to sweeten the deal.

For those of you predicting a now-rare playoff-less Saints season, I think you underestimate Brees' ability to rally and run an otherwise imperfect or damaged team. Joe Vitt and Brees already have a long history together. I'm sorry, haters, but you're gonna see another season full of fortyburgers. The other problems will still be there, but striking fear in the hearts of any team whenever we touch the ball won't be one of them.

Yeah, keep being delusional. He already has accomplished as much or more in his career as Brees and he's barely started. Imagine if his coach let him play full games and the full season.

So in order to prove he's a better player, he should go get injured. This makes sense.

Why would I be happy that the rest of the team is going to likely suffer in quality? I hope he accepts lower pay a la Brady but that the organization actually tries to put the best possible team on the field instead of trading until, in 2153, they're going to have every pick in the NFL draft.
