So I've read the books and watched the first season of the show. It sounds like they don't get all the way through the second book in the second season if they are just casting those parts now.

They just shuffled some things around. There are actually a couple of scenes from A Storm of Swords that they pulled forward into season 2, like the beginning of Jamie and Brieene's road trip.
