Funny thing about people from countries with universal health care...

Cato, 46 - marking his credit-rating firm's 15th birthday - said yesterday: "It is worth every penny for the buzz it is creating."

At least he's honest. Still seems like a win/win for everyone.

The only bad thing about this is that you have to spend it with the people you work with.

LarryDan43: Cheaper than giving them a good healthcare plan.

They're from the UK. They can be found unconscious and naked on the side of the road and will get excellent health care.

Have you ever consumed health care in the UK? No, I thought not.

Healthcare here is rationed by private, for-profit insurance companies, who make more money the more they ration it. My employer's insurance carrier (United Healthcare) earned the distinction of having the highest ratio of CEO pay to worker pay of any public company in the USA. Go private care! Where do you think that money came from, btw?

The UK's NHS is charged with delivering the most care possible within the money available, and it's actually rather good. My father has just recovered from prostate cancer and the treatment was second to none, with zero co-pays.

Assuming the GOP gets control in Washington, their key legislative priority is to keep taxes low for the rich, and lower them further ... I hope you enjoy what "trickles down" as a result

/ ignorance is bliss

You do know that not every country in the world uses the US dollar? It's 930 bucks, and not atypical for a cheap package holiday from the UK to the Balearic Islands.

Yeah, it's likely win win for everyone. He can do some half assed training while they're all there and write the whole thing off as a business expense (although I don't know shiat about Euro tax laws). Employees don't have to show it as income since it was business training. If he'd just put in their pay checks, it wold have been a much smaller amount since then it gets taxed.

Typically companies do some kind of fringe benefit for employees when they have a chunk of money they need to get rid of for tax purposes, but it isn't enough to pass out as bonuses (or for some accounting reason they can't). Most of the time the companies just bring the benefit to you, this guy likes to travel I guess.

I know this makes me sound ungrateful or something, but a vacation with my whole worksite isn't exactly a reward. No matter how many of them you like, certain "work rules" will be in effect, nothing that happens there stays there, and then you're just back with the same people you now knows lots of things you'd rather have not known about. An afternoon in lieu of the office, sure. But more than that... eh.

It's like when they have a potluck at work, and you're forced to pretend to want to try the slop your idiot co-workers call food (and socialize with people you've gotten pretty good at avoiding by now) instead of just having the lunch you actually wanted to have on your own time.

You can do the same in IE too. Fark runs slow as fark on IE for some reason though. Can anyone explain that?

Good on this boss though. There's a company in my area, (Moser Engineering) that does the same every year. The only catch is that it is mandatory for you to go from what I've been told. They went to Cancun two years ago. Don't know where they went last year or this year.

if you have the money you can have any healthcare you like in the UK, just as in the US. If you have no money we'll still treat your ingrowing toenails, leukaemia, squint, haemorrhoids or mitral stenosis without a bill at the end.

Very few treatments are "rationed" and those are generally ones with unproven clinical effectiveness. Heart transplants, for example, are limited solely by the number of donor hearts available. Do insurance companies in the US fund any treatment without question or limit?

Cut him some slack. I wouldn't know where Majorca is, either, had I not been there once.

You could technically get there by surface transportation. I've taken a ferry from Majorca to Barcelona (a thoroughly unpleasant experience, if I do say so myself). It's more likely that, when you book a vacation for 500 people, you get the group rate.

Yea, this sounds more like a 4 day long working lunch than a vacation.

"Hey, I saw that your calendar was booked all day, so I scheduled this meeting over lunch. Don't worry, I ordered Jimmy Johns. The sandwich is just the way you like, it slathered in pounds of mayo and warm from sitting out for 2 hours with a bag of greasy chips."

"Thanks, I didn't want to waste that lone half hour of my day relaxing while eating the salad and fresh fruit I packed."

My dumbs_it boss got a bad score on his employee satisfaction report, so he made us come up with ways to improve his score. My submission included his resignation. That didn't go over nearly as well as I thought it would.

We did suggest some morale boosters like an occasional staff lunch, etc. We finally had the first one (which was completely orchestrated by his secretary). We were told we had to bring our own food and he didn't even bother to show up. What a jacka_s.
