Meh. Illusions done for TV on a stage bore me at this point. I've seen how pretty much every one of these tricks are done, its really not impressive any more.

Up-close magic is still where its at.

Agreed. After watching all the "Masked Magician" shows recently on the Bio Channel, the "secrets" to all these tricks are common knowledge.

Heah, the illusions themselves weren't anything special, although I have to give them props for speed.

(I just wish stage magicians would stop the whole prancing about like a got dam ballerina thing.)

It is to distract the audience and so are the pretty women.

Even those shows got boring, after you realized every trick was a variant of the same 3-4 things. Mirrors, secret compartment, false walls, doubles (one of them even used twin girls for one trick. Ummm... OK... facinating?)

Yep. Bit of fishing line it looks like. You can see it at about 2:00 when his hat brim gets between the straw and the window.

That's it exactly, but from the PoV of the fast food workers, they can't see the string, and when he moves his hand it looks like it's passing right over. It's more about the reactions than the trick itself.

Go to 1:00 and watch- girl sits down, camera angle changes at 1:11 as sissy throws the blanket and as it falls over the chair she is obviously already gone. Wow! Awesome.

It's about the presentation more than the illusion. And I thought the presentation was damned impressive. Knowing how the tricks are done doesn't make it any less cool for me. Same with close-up magic. I can stare at the cups-and-balls trick for hours even when I know every single move that's being made.

I thought the speed took away from the performance.

With the speed all I got was that they were performing mostly the same trick over and over and not letting it in view long enough to let anyone really see what was happening.

I think I prefer a slower, right in your face, no enormous distractions, I dare you to see me do the trick, kind of trick.

That said, that girl who could levitate her boobs was pretty damn awesome.

It's not the tricks (old), it's the speed and execution that coloured me impressed. A couple of flubs, but overall very much in the realm of high excellence.

They're also a complete farking rort. One secret I saw revealed where a dude makes a large earth-moving truck disappear from behind a large curtain on stage.

When the camera panned in and around the tuck to prove that it was empty, the cameraman cleverly missed enough bits so that 7 or 8 ninjas could hide inside.

Eight or so random members of the studio audience were called up to peek under the curtain to make sure everything was legit as the trick progressed. All of them were plants.

And I'm like half filled with faux rage YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FARKING KIDDING ME?!! and half Graham Chapman from the Anne Elk sketch. An incredulous "that's it, is it?"

1) So that's what became of Peter Noonan...

2) We have Country Music Television over the air here and this morning as part of their E/I programming they showed some kids - I'd say 12 to 16 - doing close-up magic and it was good.

The 16 year old was doing rope tricks that were really great.

(The BEST EVER is a clip of a guy doing up-close card magic were he is telling a story, shuffling the deck and pulling up cards to illustrate the story. This doesn't do justice to the performance, which is truly amazing)

Sheesh, I saw that. Its not an illusion if you're lying by using plants, sorry.

Most of them were some variation of:

Put model in box that looks like its 6-sided.

Model quickly opens door in back, leaves, closes door hides behind box.

Magican stands next to box, holds up large cloth, hiding him.

Model and magician trade places, he enters box.

Model drops cloth, magician opens door
