Wait a minute? Are you saying that some people use religion as a means to gain power in society?! |

Now this, THIS is what dirty politics is made of. And I say, let there be mud! |

Makes you think twice about the cash and stock "donations" that Romney gives to the LDS Church every year... |
||
| FormlessOne
Isn't it interesting that, the further you delve into politics, the more often such delving ends at a religion? It's almost as if the manipulation of humanity is a shared goal of both politics and religion... |
||
| Gunther
A study co-written by Cragun and recently published in Free Inquiry estimates that the Mormon Church donates only about 0.7 percent of its annual income to charity; the United Methodist Church gives about 29 percent. Damn, that's insane. The freakin' Catholic church is generous by comparison. shiat, I wouldn't be surprised to learn the Scientologists gave more than 0.7% to charity. |

Any other distinction is sorting out which means to the end. |

But if they do give to charity, they probably give to anti-psychology charities, so it makes them evil bastards anyways. |

Auditing is expensive, and they write it off once the member's cash reserves run out. I'm sure they count that as charity. /(well, write off except for the poor people working basically for free forever) // 18 years vacation off at the beginning of the next incarnation |

If you were to construct a religion as a business, it would be hard to beat the LDS Church. But Scientology is giving it their best shot. |

Dreyelle: Why am I forever reading stories on Fark that linkback to the original story? Just submit the original already!! The unfortunate side-effect of fark's "Can only use a link once" submission method. Someone probably did link to the original article but didn't include an admin pleasing pun or A/B/C style headline and got the link redlight. |

For what it's worth, the Polynesian Cultural Center is hardly a theme park. It's very much dedicated to the preservation of the indigenous cultures of Pacific islanders. Yes, most of the staff are from BYU which is right up the road, but unless you asked specifically there wouldn't be any indication that the PCC is run by Mormons or is in any way trying to convert visitors. |
||
| rjakobi
I remember going to the PCC when in Hawaii and not once was I accosted by Mormons. Did Bloomberg lease out to Sheriff Joe again? |
