Of course not; he has to be traded to Los Locos.

Why not?

The Brewers aren't going anywhere this year. And Greinke's pretty particular about where he wants to be. If where he wants to be is Milwaukee, couldn't they just resign him this offseason after a trade?

Unless the trade pisses him off enough to not resign.

I'm not sure he'd be a good fit for the Mets.

What's wrong? I used a misspelling, made a reference to an '80's movie, and the reference was to the wrong movie. Out of that, I got my first green.

What's a Greinke? It's usually what I say when I order my 6th long island ice tea. "hey mr. bar guy, I'll have another greinke".

And what's with the White Sox tag? The minor historical oddity? Greinke doesn't even play in the Modern League,

I would assume this was greened just so there would be 20 comments about how downhill the headlines are going and that trolling in headlines is just approved for pageviews and blah blah blah.
Either way, I got my precious and will cherish it forever.

On the actual topic, WTF Brewers? Greinke is sitting, but not being traded? Everyone, but Braun, Lucroy, and Gallardo should be on the block. I will continue watching until the bitter end, but this team will not win in the postseason as is.

The guy just needs some rest. Doesn't mean we automatically need to trade a player because he needs a break. Hell, look at the run the Cardinals made last year.

As longs he doesn't start pining for the fjords.

/At this point that last NL Wildcard could go to just about anyone
//Oh, wait, Randy Wolf is still in the rotation and Greinke's many millions apart from the team's number for a new contract

I'm not gonna complain about a baseball thread, and especially not one about one of my favorite players, but I just don't get it. I can get greening a boring link if it has a good headline; I can get greening a good link despite a boring headline.

But, uh...this?

roc6783: Greinke is sitting, but not being traded?

I'd guess they're trying to line things up a certain way. As it stands, it looks like he'll be scheduled to start August 2nd or so...might be attractive in a trade deadline deal.

But it's definitely weird.

Maybe their GM talked to the Red Sox brass and wants to join in on the "donate a player to the White Sox" fun.

They mention the White Sox in the article.

White Sox tag? Where?

And you can trade between leagues.

Anyway... the White Sox are absolutely in the hunt for him.

Yes, but why even mention it today? Why not wait until the day before his start? It seems a heck of a lot more plausible then.

Meh. Could be. Just saying team do all sorts of strange stuff in the media. Maybe they're (fake) sending the message that a deal is almost done... so other teams interested start moving faster in offering better players or whatever.

But they're toying with my emotions, isn't that the important thing here?

Do you think the press would leave him alone if he had a three week stretch like he just had here?

John Danks signed a fat contract extension in the offseason and his stretch from April 22 to May 14 had 26 runs allowed in 28 2/3 innings. The media didn't seem to be harassing him too much.

Absolutely. Not as bad as New York though.

Still don't understand why players pay attention to the media. I sure as hell wouldn't if I were an MLB player.

IIRC, Danks is 5 years/$65MM? You might be looking at double the dollars for Greinke. Although if it were with the Sox instead of the Cubs, I agree the pressure would be far less.

I don't think it's so much "what they say about me in the papers/on TV" it's more like "how many people are in the room with me asking me questions at the same time".

OTOH he was quoted as saying something like "there are more people to ignore in New York or Boston than there are in Milwaukee but I would probably still ignore them" when he signed here. So who knows.
