Yahoo names new CEO. This isn't a repeat from the last two times they've done this in the past year

Good, their news has been looking kind of partisany lately. Maybe this will fix it.

I'll give it about 6 months before Google starts suing claiming that Yahoo is copying their ideas.

She worked on creating the Google search engine and the company's widely-recognised home page.

Don't get me wrong, Google's overly simplified home page is the biggest reason I use it, it's pure genius, but is creating a blank white page with one lone search box something to brag about on a resume?

Yes. It's iconic, and it changed a lot of attitudes about what good web design is. As simple as it sounds, it was actually a revolutionary idea at the time.

Yeah. Interesting choice but given that she's a techie and doesn't appear to have much experience on the business side of things, I bet that she might fail even worse than the last few CEOs. Of course, I might be completely wrong since the last few CEOs were all business people.

Some love it, I hate it. I prefer Yahoo because it's easier for me to see the news and sports stuff. Yes, I really am that lazy.

Suing Microsoft, even if they engaged in Watergate style industrial espionage, would risk associating Google Search with Bing, and it's not worth their reputation to be associate with Bing.

Fair enough, but in the long run Google's design change seemed to work well. Overall it makes sense if someone's not a fan, but I'll give her credit that she's backed some risky ideas and won.

Hopefully she's a decent pick. She'll probably end up getting taken down with the sinking ship, but I hope she suceeds.

Is the Yahoo board still trying to locate Jerry Yang so they can have a few 'words' with him about not selling the company to Microsoft, or is Yang already sleeping with the fishes?

Looks like someone doesn't remember the 'web portals' idea. It was a walled-garden of awesome clutter.

It wasn't so much the simple design as it was the speed. Google was the first 'fast' webpage.
Dial-up was still heavily in use, and those with DSL/cable were fighting with neighbors over speed. Google was always fast. Simplicity just added to it.

Also a search engine is more than a box on a web form. I'm sure she worked on those computers without screens with blinky lights & whirring fans in the big white room where the keep the internet.

The thing with Google was the speed that it brought back results and the quality. It was mind-blowingly better.

Japan and other large parts of Asia, at least. There are a LOT of people here, and they all use Yahoo. Google barely has a presence here, at the moment.

Not China - go Baidu or go home. Of course, Google's relatively small presence here has something to do with that whole "not caving in to the Chinese government's censorship demands" than anything else.

Wait a second, on top of that there's a chance of the user going to Yahoo to do the search rather than Google, so making you go out of your way and through a search engine can only INCREASE their traffic.
