Seahawks running back and Cal alum Marshawn Lynch was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence in Oakland over the weekend, authorities said Monday.

Whew. Only endangering Californians. I thought we'd have to be worried there for a moment.

Thank god this wasn't in New Orleans or else he'd still be driving down the street, crashing through everything.

/getting another power back in the draft seems like a better move with this happening
//weird how everyone waited for this week to get crazy

Most of these guys have been busted for DUIs. Must be tough being rich in the off season to resort to alcohol abuse with out the fore sight to get a driver.

Most of these guys grew up poorer than dirt, and now have it big in the NFL. What do they buy with their first big contract? A nice house and car to go to boot. They now own a car that the rest of the people can admire, almost as a status symbol. Growing up, what did they own? What little they did own, was it ever stolen? How often did they see or know victims of stolen cars?

Yes, they are rich as hell but young NFL types who might be less than 5 years removed from a ghetto, are extremely possessive of their material possessions, especially something as nice as a 100K+ car these athletes drive around. They aren't so eager to leave it overnight in some bar parking lot.

That, or we all do stupid shiat when we are drunk.

"Lynch's arrest came two days after he and 49ers quarterback Josh Johnson awarded a scholarship to an Oakland gunshot victim."

Odd way to earn a scholarship, but I guess you do what you have to when times are tough..

This one is gonna hurt the hawks. Not the most egregious offense but the fact he's been popped on a couple other occasions are gonna lead Goodell to get draconian on his ass. And of course after the saints punishment criticisms he's gonna be all hard ass so he can say 'look, I'm tough on the other guys too'. In my opinion goodell has painted himself into a corner and he's gonna wish he had done things differently before it's all over with.

Looks like it's time to unleash Turbin. If there's a position where rookies can step in and produce big-time right away on offense, it's at RB.

True. Still you figure with the group of hangers on these guys have they could find one they could trust and sober enough to drive them home.

Plus I suspect they have a big target on themselves as a young minority driving a big fancy $$$ car.

You know how I feel about it. Nine times out of ten it ain't worth it to overpay at RB - most replaceable position on the field.

Also, you've got to figure that it's 4 games maximum - they were going to lose to Green Bay either way, and they're probably going to beat St. Louis anyway. So it comes down to Arizona away and Dallas home - I feel pretty good about their chances in both games, but they should win at least one. The next four suck, though, Carolina, Detroit, New England, and San Francisco, with only New England being a home game. Looks like 3-5 (assuming there's an upset in there) with or without Lynch.

I got a nickel says they go at least 4-4 in that stretch. That D is gonna win some games.

I hope they do - I'd feel better about them if they were home games, though. But I haven't seen any of the team in action this year, so I'm really basing it on last year and forgetting about the upgrades via guys getting healthy and new players.

I think it's all about Flynn and how he adjusts and reacts to a new team, personnel, and being the every day guy. I think he'll do fine but you don't know 'til you know.

I still laugh at Hasselbeck during that play. He ran a few yards behind and his block was punching a Saint on the shoulder pad as he ran by.

Maybe, finally, it's time to give Leon Washington some looks in the backfield. Not as an every-down back -- I realize he won't be able to maintain his 4.7 career yards per carry with 25 carries a game. But I'd think he could do it for 10 carries, as a true change-of-pace guy, like he did with the Jets in '09.

I'd assume with a rookie starter he'd get more looks - I'd definitely like to see Leon get some more touches, actually have there be more of a reason they signed him away from the Jets.

There were only 2 DUIs that I can think of (Kidd & Lynch). It'd be pretty stupid to claim that most pro athletes have been busted for DUIs.

Most of the arrests have been for DUI. Not most athletes have been arrested for DUI. There's also been (probably not all in the last week):
Dez Bryant - domestic assault
Adrian Peterson - Resisting arrest
Ondrej Pavelec - DUI
Aaron Berry - DUI
Justin Blackmon - DUI

I've never understood why the teams don't hire drivers (and put in the contracts they'll use them) for everyone. $120k/yr per player is pocket change and saves money after the first suspension avoided.

This was somewhere on ESPN some time ago. Teams used to do so, but many players refused to take advantage of the service. Those who did were basically screwed over when the owners decided to cease the practice, citing liability and cost-saving.

Of course. Most of them are doing something completely innocent 99% of the time. Many of them don't need a damn driver and will never get a dui. Many of them blow their first checks on a massively expensive car they want to drive. And then there's the guys who are doing shiat they'd prefer no one know about. Either way you'd end up paying to drive around guys who don't need a chauffeur and not chauffering the guys who need one the most because they're idiots.
