"Black women that look like me don't engage in relationships like that," I have a couple of friends who would disagree. Way to deflect allegations of not-quite-hetero tendencies by invoking negative stereotypes about lesbians. She told reporters that she's been married for 29 years, while her accuser, is "the one that's been single for a long time." Which means nothing, considering the number of closeted people in hetero relationships. "The problem is that when you have these accusations that come out, it's not just one person you're attacking. It's an entire family. My husband doesn't want to hear that. He knows the type of woman I am. I mean, my kids know the type of woman I am," Invoking the family defence means nothing, same reason as above - and those last two sentences leave some interesting wiggle room. If the fired staffer's allegations are true, it's entirely possible her family, or at least her husband, knows about her orientation and is fine with it. As long as they're both honest about what happens, that's fine with me. If she's bi/les/not straight, deep in the closet, and has been promoting anti-LGBT policies, then this is going to have an unnecessarily negative outcome for everyone involved. If her husband is quite aware of the situation, the fired staffer saw a hookup, and got fired for other reasons, then I'm done with the subject - their business, their relationship, not my problem. If the staffer is lying, shame on her for engaging in gay-baiting. There are a couple things that make me wonder how honest the lt. gov. is being, but barring evidence of hypocrisy or dishonesty I'm not going to jump all over this, save that it's sad a person still has to fear ostracism for being tagged as something other than heterosexual and gender-conformant. |

Diogenes ....could teach her some things about being a hot black lesbian. |

| Rincewind53 Goddamn, she actually said that. What a racist and homophobic asshole. |

| AirForceVet Gee, maybe Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll has the same lawyer as Debra Lafave who stated Debra was too hot to go to prison? While I can understand Jennifer is responding to a possible disgruntled employee smear (as stated by Diogenes), I believe she could have said it better. It is a tough thing to be accused of, considering her party's actions against GLBTs. I had a similar, unpleasant experience while on active duty during the days when gays, lesbians were simply kicked out, i.e. pre-DADT. The NCO admitted he had no proof I was gay and only married to hid my "gayness." But it was scary as I held a high-level security clearance at the time. Sucks to lose your job on a rumor. |

Florida's Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll is on the defensive after former staff member Carletha Cole claimed that she caught Carroll and her female travel aide in a "compromising position" in Carroll's capitol office. "Look at me - I'm attractive. Everyone knows that lesbians are desperate ugly women who only go for other women because they can't get a man." a giggling Carroll, who was attending the opening of a Mitt Romney campaign office in Orange Park, told Tampa 10. |

Either that or someone stuck so deeply in the closet that she feels like she has no choice but to lash out when people start getting close to the truth. Take your pick for which scenario is sadder. |

"Black women that look like me don't engage in relationships like that" This is the single most ridiculous thing I've read on Fark in a very long time. Think about that. |

"Black women that look like me don't engage in relationships like that," What we need is more hot lesbians to be open about their lesbianiaty. There should be hot lesbians on every streetcorner making out, in every highrise having naked tickle fights with the blinds open. I shouldn't be able to get on the subway without tripping over scissoring lesbians, or pick up my sandwich without reaching over the sixty-nining couple on the counter. This is the America I dream of, and we can make it happen if we work together. |

She's an idiot. And this is probably a testing for VP. She's a woman and black but carries the same homophobic and racist ideals as the GOP base. If we hear her name bandied about in the next few days we'll know. That or she truly is a lesbian, and there is a special place somewhere bad for her as a minority, female, homosexual that threw her lot in with a party that the majority of would consider her anathema. |

hugram: Hi, what's going on here? [www.vashtie.com image 268x356] I went to school with Vanessa Williams at Syracuse University when she was just getting started in pageants (I think she had already won Miss Syracuse). Anyway, we were in one class together and she was so beautiful in person you just couldn't believe she was real. |

tartie_pants: Wow... just wow as a lesbian I can say this, you ain't all that girl. I wish more black femmes were famous so I could add to this post. Ma'am, you have no idea how beautiful and dolled up black femmes can get. But being a lesbian isn't about what you wear or your personal appearance. As a member of fark's queer femme community I frown on these shenanigans. |

skullkrusher: well, she's black at least. Not sure what that has to do with anything though. I don't either. it sounds kinda homophobic. I've heard before that black gay men have a hard time coming out because their peers in their social circles are more homophobic than average. Is she implying something akin to Ahmadinejad's statement? "We have no (black) gays. Only the uggos turn gay" I just find it bizarre and offensive. |

| downstairs Esc7: I've heard before that black gay men have a hard time coming out because their peers in their social circles are more homophobic than average. Yes, I can confirm this with at least a little anecdotal evidence. Had a very good talk with a black gay man down here last week. He said it is MUCH more difficult to come out as a black person. It has a lot to do with how much more religious the black community is. And how "family" means a lot more in that community (most likely because so many more families are being ripped apart by other means... jail, etc.) So by being gay, you're no longer interested in "family" as you are now not going to have kids. His words (paraphrased)... not mine. |

Only the uggos turn gay" I just find it bizarre and offensive. it's a lot easier to deny false accusations of a gay affair than it is to deny true ones. Methinks she was looking for a reason why she couldn't be gay and that's the best she could come up with. |
