Romney to waiters at $50,000-a-plate fundraiser: "Obama has let down you ghastly peasant rubes most of all. Now bring our feast of ossifrage in aspic and abscond via the service chute, that we might be spared your hideous countenance"

If the poor, unwashed little people are like ants to you, it's not condescending. It's just perspective, my friend.

How awesome would it have been if one of those waiters just stopped what he was doing and interrupted Romney to say, "Actually, I'm having an alright year. It would be better if my employer offered me health insurance though." And then just continued pouring water or whatever.

I don't know who's handling media damage control for the Romney campaign these days but...right now they have to be hating life. plus - they deserve a gotdamn pay raise for having to handle something like this...

Pretty much. I thought that having Santorum out of the race was going to make it kinda boring, but this is much more than I'd hoped for.

"It's tough being middle class in America right now," Romney said. "The waiters and waitresses that come in and out of this room and offer us refreshments, they're not having a good year. The people of the middle class of America are really struggling. And they're struggling I think in a way because they're surprised because when they voted for Barack Obama...he promised them that things were going to get a heck a lot of better. He promised hope and change and they're still waiting."

I will ignore the bad pun and get to the meat of this mess:

"The people of the middle class of America are really struggling. And they're struggling I think in a way because they're surprised because when they voted for Barack Obama...he promised them that things were going to get a heck a lot of better."

I don't think anyone is surprised at that. Maybe they are surprised that you top 1% took all those tax cuts and didn't make any jobs with them. Good paying ones. The kind that would help them think things are getting a heck of a lot better, galdarnit.

The owner looked into that place where he'd dared not look before. In it, he saw his face and it terrified him. I think he backed off after 2010 and took a stand as a conservative, not an ideological troll.

On November 30, 2009, Johnson blogged that he was disassociating himself with "the right", claiming that "The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff. I won't be going over the cliff with them."

its something of a paradox among what passes for conservative thought: if you don't have a job, you aren't a human being...but if you don't have a high prestige job, then you aren't a human being either...and if you try to GET a higher paying/high status job, then you're uppity and aren't a human being.

I think the local GOP shills are getting tired out over this whole Bain capital thing. they're trying like hell to distract and disrupt every conversation on fark...but they can't drown it all out, people are talking about Romney's mistakes and remaining on point. it's a total disaster from the shills point of view and it's driving 'em crazy.

I'll take a Black Yankee who values a cause of common good over an aristocratic Southerner who demands loyalty. That wait staff has the same rights as those Southern White Aristocrats who think them better than everyone else.

well yeah. Romney is kind of his own worst enemy. Plus I think he's used to a life where he never faces any sort of negative consequences to anything he says or does....now that he's running for President, he's in a situation where he can't terrorize his opposition into silence, or just fire people who point out his mistakes. I don't think Romney will do well on a level playing field. I could be wrong though...he might smarten up and learn how the game is played. I think this campaign will force him to grow and change in ways he never expected.

Exactly, it's all there in black and white. Romney can make any excuse he wants to, but official documentation exists that clearly states he flat out lied about when he stopped being CEO of Bain Capital.

There were signs before that though. I miss the days when I could point to the occasional post on LGF as evidence that at least some conservatives were decent people or just not crazy.

. . . huh. I wonder who is left . . . Andrew Sullivan? Sort-of? I mean, I disagree with him on foreign policy something fierce, but he's not completely nuts.

Er . . . Buddy Roemer? Gary Johnson? I can't really think of anyone else.

I don't think he has the time and opponent. Never having faced a real challenge in his life. He's the White Horse of LDS. He doesn't merely believe he's entitled to the Presidency, he believes he's ordained.

Has anyone asked him the "why do you want to be President" question yet? Seems like being President would really put a damper on the power you get from having an obscene amount of money.
