| mitchcumstein1 Do we not like Johnny Depp anymore? When did that happen? I did not sign on for that. |

mitchcumstein1: Do we not like Johnny Depp anymore? When did that happen? I did not sign on for that. I love him. He collaberated with Patti Smith on her new release and it's fantastic. He's also f*ckin' hawt. |

Does Tim Burton know? |

| Mugato I don't think Johnny Depp is quirky enough for a Wes Anderson movie. I don't know, maybe if there's a lot of make-up involved. But he'd have to tone down the Keith Richards thing and go for the Bill Murray sad sack thing. |
||
| doglover Mugato: I don't think Johnny Depp is quirky enough for a Wes Anderson movie Actually Johnny has real quirk to his characters. Wes has to fake it with unrealistic dialogue on fancy sets. |
||
| GreenAdder doglover: Wes has to fake it with unrealistic dialogue on fancy sets. But I thought his take on Spider-Man was great. |

| Asa Phelps Pshaw. Johnny Depp is so 20 years ago. |

shiat, I'm a hipster again! I hate when this happens. |

I use to find Johnny Depp attractive until he did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and now all I see him is as a creepy pedo. |
||
| Klippoklondike I like Wes Anderson movies and I like Johnny Depp. Fantastic Mr. Fox and Royal Tenenbaums are great. Need to see Moonrise Kingdom soon. |
||
| MisterLoki
Wes Anderson is awesome. Subby sucks, as usual. |
||
| jake_lex I bet that movie ends up being whimsical and bittersweet, with a soundtrack that draws very heavily from '60s British pop! |
||
| Old enough to know better
I like JohnnyDepp just fine when hes not letting Tim Burton put him in farking clown makeup. |
||
| fusillade762 bmr68: Does Tim Burton know? He must be terrified that Wes is going to steal him for his permanent stable of actors. |

jake_lex: I bet that movie ends up being whimsical and bittersweet, with a soundtrack that draws very heavily from '60s British pop! Maybe, but Wes needs to change up his visual style a little. I've got it! Wes should have at least a hundred shots of the lead actor in the exact center of the frame looking straight ahead. |

I used to think Depp was cool, until I got to college. Every girl I dated thought he was the sexiest beast ever, strictly because of his role in Overactors of the Caribbean. Now I can't stand him. I just barely made it through The Rum Diaries, and that was mostly because of excellent writing, and Amber Heard. |

Riiight. Once again the Fark "definition" of "hipster" of " someone who likes/dislikes things I dislike/like (respectively)" persists. |

Subby sounds jealous and small-penised. /One of the relatively few actors in Hollywood who can actually act. //He's the only guy on Earth I'd go straight for. |

I think we all know how this will end. |

Anderson hasn't let me down yet...I'll see it. |

Really subby? You have to be a hipster to like Depp? /Eat my penis. |

I dunno, Depp is technically a god enough actor to pull off mumbling stupidly at the camera and avoiding any real expression of character or emotion, but I don't really see why you'd need to hire a relatively good actor for that when Keanu Reeves and all the TV actors from the WB are still on the market. |

demonfaerie: I use to find Johnny Depp attractive until he did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and now all I see him is as a creepy pedo. Then you need to find an adult you trust and ask them to sit down and explain to you what "acting" is. /don't trust them if they ask you to sit on their lap while they do so. //unless they're your parent ///and you're under 8. |

demonfaerie: I use to find Johnny Depp attractive until he did Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and now all I see him is as a creepy pedo. Wilder's Wonka was much more paedo-tastic than Depp's. Depp's Wonka gave off more of an autistic vibe than a paedophilic one. |

My mind thought Wes "Craven" at first, so I was wondering how Mr. Depp would fair in a return to the horror slasher films. /would he be the last alive or die in his bed? |
||
| SockMonkeyHolocaust Can Johnny Depp act like anything other than Johnny Depp anymore? |
||
| Dwight_Yeast
SockMonkeyHolocaust: Can Johnny Depp act like anything other than Johnny Depp anymore? I think he can. I think he's discovered that -like Al Pacino- studios will pay you a hell of a lot more money to play your "character" than they will for you to actually act and put in a nuanced performance. /after the money he got for the fourth Pirates movie, I suspect Depp will do whatever the hell he wants for the rest of his life. |

| DjangoStonereaver Wes Anderson films annoy me. |

| DjangoStonereaver DjangoStonereaver: Wes Anderson films annoy me. Let me expand on this: they annoy me because they assume that people will mistake quirkiness for cleverness, and assume that he has anything to say other than "People will pay money to watch this stuff. Oh, and middle class values can be messed up sometimes." |

Moonrise Kingdom is the best movie of the year (so far). Even people I know that don't like Wes' other films have liked it. |

Let me expand on this: they annoy me because they assume that people will mistake quirkiness for cleverness, and assume that he has anything to say other than "People will pay money to watch this stuff. Oh, and middle class values can be messed up sometimes." The thing is, when you cut down through it, Wes Anderson IS actually clever under the quirkiness. Once you get past the rigid Formalism of all his films, sets, plots, etc, there's a lot there. I think of him as being my generation's Woody Allen: he makes movies for (and about) the sort of people who read the New Yorker. |

I would like to add that the trailers for his films look like something straight out of South Park. /I can't listen to police dialogue in film/tv anymore thanks to the cops from South Park |

I can understand why people are turned off by the "quirkiness" but it is the framework around which he builds his stories. I find all of his stuff to be entertaining. |

Except that Woody Allen, even at his most self-indulgently 'arty' makes film from a very personal place. I haven't seen anything from Wes Anderson that shows he's anything but shallow, both intellectually and emotionally. 'Callow' is the only way I can describe it. To each their own, I suppose. |
