| bluorangefyre Without looking at the article, roughly elventy trillion dollars. |

| some_beer_drinker standing on top of buildings downtown and spitting on people is still free. sometimes i wear a batman mask when i do it. that cost 50 bucks though. |

| bdub77 The total: A rough $2.8 million, although you can drive the price way down by ordering fewer helmets. (And of course, they don't include the cost of all the gear he goes through in The Dark Knight Rises, including his new flying vehicle, the Bat. So how can Bruce Wayne afford all this? Centives also does a rough estimation of his net worth, based on what we see in the first two Nolan movies, and decides he's got about $11.6 billion in the bank. So, in other words, he could be Batman 41 times over. Math fail. If it's 2.8 million and 11.6 billion, he could be Batman over 4100 times over. |

They actually did an issue of Robin (Tim Drake) where they covered the fictional price of a bunch of equipment. I forget exactly where it was, but it was after issue 100. Batman had just revealed Robin's secret identity to the Spoiler (Stephanie Brown) and as a result they had a falling out. The premise was that Robin has become so used to all the high-tech gear that it was hard to fight crime on a budget. |

I bet it costs even more to be ironman. |

Surprisingly affordable. I think a recount is in order. |

| akula I like how the source article cheaps out by recommending a Humvee instead of a Tumbler... that itself drops the price by a rather significant margin. I'd figure a one-off vehicle like that would likely end up costing $10-20 million, and that's assuming you can use off the shelf technology. They also go for regular hunting boomerangs instead of hunting batarangs. Seriously? If you're just using the kind of stuff you could pick up at the local sporting goods store, you're not goddamn Batman. You're just another wannabe. The whole point of Batman is that he can get all this stuff custom made (with none of the workers ever breathing one word of these expensive bespoke jobs). That's why the Joker in the Keaton Batman movie was asking "Where does he get those wonderful toys?" It's just how Batman rolls, dammit. |

PeppaJack: Surprisingly affordable. I think a recount is in order. This. The R&D on the car alone would be over 2.8M. |

![]() fark that...how much to nail Catwoman? |
||
| Emposter
First of all, it's a link to an article that links to the ACTUAL article...so fail right there at the beginning. As for the actual article that estimates the cost, you can get a feel for their calculations pretty easily... "Gas-powered magnetic grappling gun (you'll have to do with a simple grappling hook $26.95..." That pretty much says it all. The author doesn't even bother to try and figure out what it would actually cost. He picked a handful of items, ignored the rest, then phoned in even THOSE calculations by not even bothering to try and actually find realistic real life analogs or accurately figuring out costs. Pathetic. |

| I sound fat
"Luckily, the economic masterminds at Centives.net - the same people who figured out what the Death Star would cost - have figured out exactly what it costs to be Batman" Something tells me that the economic masterminds at Centives.net might have attended SEC schools. Im thinking the batmobile itself would cost more than 2.8 million to build, but thats not even the point. Who decides its necessary to know what the death star costs? How do you estimate R&D on totally fictional technologies? / How much DOES it cost to buy a trafficked teen boy and provide for his tights, capes, and masks? |

SN1987a goes boom: I think this begs the question, why aren't all rich guys going out and becoming superheroes? I mean they can obviously afford it. Being a superhero implies 1) some desire to assist and benefit your fellow man, and 2) a willingness to face considerable personal risk to do so. Neither of these traits are particularly common in the wealthy. That said, being very rich is about as close as you can get to having super-powers in the real world, in that you can do pretty much whatever you want, for good or evil. |

SN1987a goes boom: I think this begs the question, why aren't all rich guys going out and becoming superheroes? I mean they can obviously afford it. Why take the risk? If you can afford to be the Batman, you can afford to buy a dozen mercenaries and have them do as much good or evil as you wish on your behalf. You can also afford to keep it all a secret. Hence companies like blackwater. ![]() The problem with being this rich and a vigilante is that you probably have a screwed up value system to go along with it. Which might explain phenomenons like the middle eastern military tourist. They pay to be part of some conflict so they can help their brothers... but without a clear understanding of what it means to be helpful, they end up butchering the wrong people while blowing holes in their own temples. |
||
| calbert SN1987a goes boom: I think this begs the question, why aren't all rich guys going out and becoming superheroes? I mean they can obviously afford it. "begs the question" does not make any sense no matter how you use it. the phrase that you are looking for is "raises the question". please educate yourself so that you are not viewed as an open-mouth-breathing idiot. |
