I don't know...they were 2 totally different Batmans. I enjoyed Keaton as Batman (at the time, it was a huge departure for him) but Jack Nicholson owned the first movie. I also like Bale's turn as Batman...very intense.

Neither is menacing or intelligent.

Death to Smoochie is a pretty original film and underrated in my opinion. Williams was great as a crooked kid's show host. And oh lord, a Robin Williams Joker would have been beyond terrible. He would have had permission to go more over the top than he has gone in his long career of going over the top. He CAN be a great villain when restrained.

Bale is the far superior Bruce Wayne. Keaton is a better Batman.

I'm confused. Why would someone who is distraut over not being cast as Vicki Vale, storm the set in a homemade Catwoman costume to prove she is the better choice to be Vicki Vale? That rumor doesn't even make sense.

Tim Burton did his Batman as the highly stylized comic book style. Nicholson was over the top as The Joker. The set design was just amazing. The new Batman flicks do it as a realistic, this-could-actually-happen type of thing. So I can't see how you can compare and contrast the two, as they both stand on their own merits.

What are you dense? Are you retarded or something? She was distraught for not being able to do Vicki Vale due to an accident (she was actually cast for the role) so when the next movie came around and she wasn't cast, she dressed as the goddamn Catwoman to show she could be in this movie.

She just wanted to be part of one of the hottest franchise on the planet and the benefits it entails.

I recently watched the first Burton Batman film and I have to say.....it doesn't hold up. Keaton=bad, Nicholson=bad. The Nolan films are light years better

I wanted to love Death to Smoochie - it came out before the Robin Williams backlash and during a time when Edward Norton was unable to make a bad film. I'd have thought they could do sock puppet theater in my backyard and it would have gotten Oscar buzz. Reminds me of the reaction to Jim Carey/Cable Guy. I can rewatch it, but it doesn't have the same effect as their previous work.

I can say this: Batman and Robin is what caused me to not care about Batman Begins and not see it until someone shoved their DVD into my hands and made me watch it. I made no distinction and figured BB would be just as bad.

At least Burton didn't hire all his actors from mumblecore.

I found the set design of the 89 Batman movie to be really bad. Everything looks like it is indoors, even when they are supposed to be on the streets and all the buildings look like they are constructed of wood and styrofoam.

As far as Nicholson goes, I wouldn't say he was over the top just really bad and super scenery chewing. Plus he was playing pretty much the same character he plays in a lot of other movies. I mean slap some white face paint on his character from The Shining or better yet The Departed and it is basically The Joker all over again

Keaton's major method of beating crooks appears to be "stand there and let them shoot me, thus knocking me down. Then I get up and pummel them." He didn't appear to have much mobility in that get up.
