It'll be the longest time any non-french held the title before being accused of doping.

Last time the Brits had an actual chance at winning the Tour de France, it took them a 100 years and they still failed.

Sadly in the past decade it's not beyond the chance that the first 7 would be caught doping.

Then again, it wouldn't be stunning to see the top 10. I'm hoping the sport moves closer and closer to getting clean because I love watching

This year and last year seem to be the most clean of these Tour's. Wiggins won the final time trial this year by over a minute, which was expected because he's by far the best time trialist in the world.
If he did the same speed in 2000, he would have lost to Lance Armstrong by 5 minutes (and that isn't even taking into account how much more advanced his 2012 bike is).

Problem is, doping is a continuing thing. If the winner last year doped, the guy next year has to do it too in order to beat him, or at least top his time.

Personally, I'm not under any delusion that any of these guys aren't on the juice. It's cycling. You have to come into it willing to recognize that. I mean, it's a damned 2000-mile race through summer heat in the Pyrenees... on a bike. You'd have to be on drugs to do that.

So this is the final TdF headline were going with eh. So be it but that's a seriously troll-tastic headline there subby and not even remotely clever.

The individual stages were entertaining as usual, but the race for the overall GC win was over when Cadel blew up in the Alps.

It came late but the French still managed to do their version of who let the dogs out

Very surprised about Frank getting popped for a banned diuretic, and according to statements so is Frank.

Did you know there was a cat fight on twitter between Wiggins and Froome's SO?

At times it seems like half the field was sitting up. If it wasn't a sprint stage or Sky wasn't willing to chase down a breakaway then they survived.

Love him or hate him no denying Cavendish is the fastest man on 2 wheels.

I have to imagine other teams are going to come calling on Chris Froome and Peter Sagan. Time to open your checkbooks.

why post this?
Wiggins would have gotten "Andy Schelched", who i think is innocent in stage 5 so he is clean
this year's tour was bad for the injured riders, there were too many in the early stages were teams had no chance winning the tour.
viva la velo!

Many of the riders publish online their power output for various stages. A couple of sport science wonks have analyzed it and have shown that power output for riders this year is down about 10% from the Armstrong era. This would suggest that the majority of the riders are at least trying to ride clean.

With a nose like that he can't reach around to wipe his ass without touching it.

The solution is very simple. Ban the drug testing fiends.

The dominance of the British track team lead by Dave Brailsford and now the dominance by Sky also lead by Brailsford. Sky had a more dominant race than ANY Armstrong team. not only were they easily controlling the mountain stages they could afford to throw some riders to Cavendish to set up some sprints. No team has ever finished 1-2 in a final time trial and 3 men in the top 5.

Seems legit...

So explain why riders are historically slower now? And no, I won't accept drugs are worse now.

On sprints, sure... but there are other disciplines to consider. He is not the fastest TT rider and definitely not the fastest climber.

I think "the race of truth" is a better indicator on someone's speed. You need power, speed and endurance in order to win. Plus, you are on your own. No help from anyone (except for that carrot that's 20 seconds in front of you).

Well of course but people still call the cheetah the fastest even if an antelope could outrun it at any distance longer than a 1/2 mile

Don't know if the podcast will work outside the UK, but here's a radio show discussing exactly that:

The Tour de France and the statistics of cheating

Essentially, riders during more recent TdFs produce fewer watts per kg of mass than they have in older tours, which suggests less substance abuse.

I've heard it said that in the days of empire, the union flag could be flown upside down as a subtle distress signal. Don't know if true, but semi-CSB anyway.
