So now we have rat-like things defending the ocean?

Who knew Mr. Lee's Greater Hong Kong had annexed the ocean?

Yeah, I'm going to have to see a more detailed article (preferably peer reviewed) before I buy that. Heart muscle cells on a silicon substrate will absorb nutrients from the media they are in... just as they would when cultured in an agar dish.

Reads more like typical Harvard bullshiat science... "hey look, we took a culture of cells and stuck them on a substrate, we created a jellyfish!"... No you didn't, you have muscle cells behaving as every culture of muscle cells has behaved ever.

I read elesewhere that a water vortex is created by the motion of movement, which directs food toward the mouth of jellyfish. This might be the "feeding behaviour", because there ain't much else.

I think I have seen this movie and things do not end well. I for one welcome our new rat-jellyfish overlords.

This is going to shake up the all natural, family farmed, locally sourced organic jellyfish manufacturers.

"As engineers, we are very comfortable with building things out of steel, copper, concrete," he says. "I think of cells as another kind of building substrate, but we need rigorous quantitative design specs to move tissue engineering to a reproducible type of engineering. The jellyfish provides a design algorithm for reverse engineering an organ's function and developing quantitative design and performance specifications. We can complete the full exercise of the engineer's design process: design, build, and test."
