| xanadian Well, in all fairness, it's hard to represent "penis" in hexadecimal. /0xB16B4115 |

| DjangoStonereaver Maybe it was a tribute to their CEO? ![]() BOOBIES! BOOBIES! BOOBIES! BOOBIES! |
||
| serial_crusher Wow, people sure do like getting outraged, don't they? / I accidentally checked in some mockup HTML templates that had the phrase "durka durka jihad" in them. That was a fun afternoon. |

FTFA: Some chucklehead working for Microsoft thought it would be funny to slip a thinly camouflaged sexist remark -- "big boobs" -- into software code that connects the Linux kernel to Microsoft's HyperV virtualization product. Really? REALLY? |
||
| Al_Ed Okay, this is funny. I can't believe how uptight our country has become. I blame the terrorists...or maybe Joe Paterno...or perhaps that jackass who shot up the Batman movie. I dunno, *someone's* at fault here. |

Really? REALLY? Really. The woman who coded that should NOT have been bragging about her "assets" in the software. This sexist behavior is inappropriate in the business world. |

Author sounds jealous with his a-cups. He must have been the last one to get asked out for the school dance. |

I read that "boys club" remark in a different article, almost word for word. Now who's the real enemy? |

Thank the greater being of your choice that we don't have anything more important to address than immature code jockeys. |

At least it isn't 0x8BADBEEF. What would the vegans think? Probably something negative. |

man i HATE my country sometimes... why is MS apologizing? and how is this offensive? When did nipples and titties become more offensive than seeing someones brain being blown out on tv? Am i the only person that see this as wrong? |
||
| Dr Dreidel I don't get why this is sexism. Are women not allowed to notice, joke about, reference, delight in, play with, juggle, rest on or otherwise have fun with boobs, particularly big ones? // I gotta tell you, I plead mammaries on this whole thing |

"0xB16B00B5" This doesn't read as big boobs. It says B16B00B5. This is like seeing Jesus in your toast, tree trunk or mold. It's subjective. Show this to the average person who isn't hyper sensitive and I'm sure they will not see what you do. I mean, if it said BIGBOOBS that would be one thing but the people who are offended by this are clearly still in 4th grade. Grow up. you want to be outraged? choose the poverty and starvation that occurs in this country everyday. |

well.. anyone that has had anything to do with computers more than using aol or sitting on facebook knows what it means... BUT.. why is "Bigboobs" offensive at all? i just don't get that... |
||
| imontheinternet How are the words "big boobs" sexist? Who is being hurt by those words and in what way? Or, is this just a kneejerk PC butthurt reaction to an innocent, albeit juvenile prank? The code doesn't say, "Amy from accounting has big boobs, so I stare at them instead of listening to her when she talks." |
||
| GORDON
The author sounds like an easily outraged nutball. If "Big Boobs" is sexist, is it ok to proclaim "Small Boobs?" Or are we, in a sacrifice to the gods of political correctness, not allowed to acknowledge boobs of any size, or even to recognize their existence? I, for one, do not wish to live in a boobless world. Kill him. |
||
| Al_Ed And I'd just like to add "big boobs". That is all... Boobs. Big ones. |

If you are programming, sometimes you need to put a hex token in memory this is fairly unique and easy to remember. When the program is running, you do a search through the memory for your token and quickly find the section you need to monitor. Yeah, its crass, but it is a fairly unique 32 bit number that is easy to remember in hex. And its way funnier than 0xDEADBEEF. |

Sexist? How? As well, how do we know they mean breasts? Couldn't the coder be a slighted employee pointing out his superiors? |

Her breasts are like BIG ROUND FIRM JUICY LOTUSES! |

Chevello: Fluorescent Testicle: FTFA: Some chucklehead working for Microsoft thought it would be funny to slip a thinly camouflaged sexist remark -- "big boobs" -- into software code that connects the Linux kernel to Microsoft's HyperV virtualization product. Really? REALLY? Really. The woman who coded that should NOT have been bragging about her "assets" in the software. This sexist behavior is inappropriate in the business world. From here: According to Angela Byron's keynote at the Open Web Vancouver conference earlier this year, women compose 28% of those involved in proprietary software, slightly more than half what you would expect from a random distribution. Asked to guess what percentage of FOSS developers are women, mostly people guess a number between 30-45%. A few, either more observant or anticipating a trick question after hearing the proprietary figure, guess 12-16%. The exact figure, though, is even lower: 1.5% |

imontheinternet: How are the words "big boobs" sexist? Who is being hurt by those words and in what way? Or, is this just a kneejerk PC butthurt reaction to an innocent, albeit juvenile prank? The code doesn't say, "Amy from accounting has big boobs, so I stare at them instead of listening to her when she talks." The truly sad part is that the code doesn't say "big boobs," either - there's a hexadecimal number that, when interpreted by someone looking to be offended, could be interpreted as "0xbigboobs" and therefore Microsoft must apologize for a specific value in the hexadecimal system. This is like forcing Texas Instruments to apologize for using the number 5318008 because, if typed on a typical calculator which is then inverted, it could be interpreted as "BOOBIES". I can't wait to get back to work and discover that there's an entire batch of hexadecimal values that are now considered "off limits" as constants, because of the fear that some friggin' moron may interpret those values in a way that could be seen as sexist, bigoted, or otherwise insensitive. |

Oh, come on. Even if you think this is just a harmless prank, you have to be seriously delusional to claim that it was chosen purely accidentally, particularly when the previous version of the code used 0x0B00B135 in the same spot. |
||
| WarszawaScream Oh no, someone inserted a silly string of words made from numbers into the code, everyone get offended! And when people tell you to lighten up, get offended at them for being so terribly immature and bigoted and sexist and DO THESE PEOPLE NOT USE THE INTERNET?! Fark's sakes it's one big boob joke out here! LIGHTEN UP, FRANCIS! |

topcon: Oh no, "big boobs." "HE'S A RAPIST!" \ [2.bp.blogspot.com image 450x350] Thank god that kind of feminism has pretty much gone away. Dworkin was one sick biatch. I'm pretty sure she is why I disregard most feminists, now. She hurt the cause more than she helped it. |
