| Magorn It would really make my day if when They hand him the torch he does the first Stanza of the prologue to Henry V: O for a Muse of fire, that would ascend The brightest heaven of invention, A kingdom for a stage, princes to act And monarchs to behold the swelling scene! |
||
| TonnageVT I just hope someone starts blaring the theme to Eastenders when it goes through the set. |

They need to let David Tennant do the last leg, in costume as The Doctor. This is a thing that must be. |

VICTORY SHALL BE MINE! /rips the torch from subby's hands |
||
| oldfarthenry I'd love to see a Dalek carry the torch for a bit - but it would probably just use it to burn spectators to death. |

| brantgoose The path of the Olympic Flame from Greece to London went via Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Claret country of Bordeaux, France, for some reason, and London at least twice. But it's no match for the path of the Olympic flame through Canada. That Mother went to the Arctic and back several times, following a path that took it to within a few hundred yards of 97% of the population of Canada and some border state Americans (it got lost and ended up in Detroit for a few minutes). If you didn't see at least three Olympic torch-bearers, a hand over or two, and know at least one torch bearer personally, you're probably an illegal Mexican potato-picker in New Brunswick. |

Anyone remember the STNG episode called Disaster where the Enterprise hits a quantum filament and Picard gets trapped with the children? I was the little blonde haired kid. My parents wanted me to be a movie star or some shiat so they drug me to all kinds of auditions. The Enterprise set was pretty wild - lots of partying especially with the main cast. I got to see Marina Sirtis naked so it was totally worth the crappy food they fed the extras. |

Actually, it's surprisingly easy in Detroit to accidentally go into the tunnel to Windsor and vice versa. |

I have to wonder if Stewart goes to Trek conventions and hopes that at least one fan will ask him to sign a photo or a playbill from his Shakespeare days, or says "your role as Scrooge made me want to go into acting." While I'm sure he doesn't dislike how he's been solidified in the annals of fandom, I have to think that he wishes people recognized and appreciated him more often for his meatier acting roles. Then again, Jim Varney did Shakespeare like a mo-fo, and look where it got him. Springy Dog in Toy Story isn't anything to laugh at, though. /Run, Jean-Luc, run! |

I will say, though, that was one of the best scenes in all of Star Trek. |

| xanadian bloobeary: They need to let David Tennant do the last leg, in costume as The Doctor. This is a thing that must be. I was thinking the same thing the other day. I guess kind of technically, it's still following canon since Matt Smith had the torch for a bit... *checks torchbearer list* Huh. Apparently, Matt Smith isn't listed as one of the torchbearers. Weird. |
||

The torch route takes it right past my office this week, not sure if I can be bothered to go and look. On the one hand I don't care, but on the other hand I'll never have a chance to see it again, it might be worth it just to ... ok fine i'll go and look. |

Edward James Olmos actually won an emmy for being Castillo but the role he's most well known for is Adama. And he uses Adama to get geeks to know about causes he's passionate about. It goes both ways. Stewart has never shyed away from his role as Picard. But let's not forget: He probably made more money in his roles in X-Men and American Dad than he EVER made as Picard. |

Within ST:tNG they established that the character Picard likes to perform Shakespeare as a hobby; as a result, Stewart does get to talk about Shakespeare at his paid public appearances. Of course, the fans think it's Stewart doing captain Picard doing Shakespeare (or, for some fans, just captain Picard doing Shakespeare), but it could be worse. |

You know who restarted the tradition of carrying the Olympic torch from Greece? Hitler. |

I hope that Sir Ian McKellen jumps in front of Stewart and yells, "You shall not pass!". also, here is a preview: |

TORCH SONG SOLO The last man on Earth(?) sits alone in his camp On the way to the Olympics. How he has come to be Torch-bearer is kind of hazy, Along with why there seem to be no crowds along the way To cheer him on. He's not really sure where the Games are, And even if he knew for certain It wouldn't seem right to go straight there Without first finding people along the way That he can show the Torch to. A secret part of him also suspects That if he ever did arrive at the stadium He would find no pomp and pageantry, No cheering crowds, And nothing to do But collect all the medals by default And ever after Have nothing to do. So he will run the Torch forever, Taking whichever road looks most tempting, On the chance that somewhere The cheering crowds Are waiting. --Tom Digby |
