| Walker F*ck you YouTube. There are tons of kids using your service. You are going to put their real names up there for child molesters to track them down? Stay classy. |

| Tsar_Bomba1
I don't mind using my real name... |
||
| Honest Bender How DARE they ask you if you'd like to use your real name! How DARE they make it entirely optional! Where do they get the nerve! /Yawn |

I understand that you shouldn't have any expectations to privacy on the internet, but at the same time I don't want to just hand over my info to every passerby. If someone wants to track down my bullshiat a put a name and face to it, they should have to work a little bit. |

Not sure if serious. If so, this would bring a whole new level to the child molester paranoia in the US. /but not in the UK //where it's really gone truly insane ///pretty sure that the relatives who make up 90% of the molestation cases in the US know where the kids live |

| whither_apophis I hope they hire Moe Syzslak to do the name confirmations |

Please tell me this wasn't their big idea to try and fix YouTube comments. |

Yea it's just not going to be a good(the right) thing in the long run. It's a "you have to take the good with the bad" kind of situation. People understand when someone over seas in an oppressive political situation needs to be anonymous, just so they can speak their minds against the oppressive regime(a freedom many of us have come to take for granted). We then seem to forget this is the same thing that lets fools be fools on the internet, in youtube comments and such. Can't have one without the other. And freedom is far harder to get than to lose. Haters gonna hate, so stop trying to stop them. Just learn to ignore and marginalize fools, while accepting that that is one of the ongoing costs of your freedom. Not that any corporations are concerned with "the people's" freedom of course. As long as we are free to give them our money and time we are as free as we need to be(from their POV). |

A friend of my father won a radio station's "Big Ass Ham" giveaway when I was younger. They almost hung up on him because his name is Harry Johnson and they couldn't get over that it wasn't a prank call. He was able to get it, but man they were questioning him for awhile. |

Drayen: Honest Bender: How DARE they ask you if you'd like to use your real name! How DARE they make it entirely optional! Where do they get the nerve! /Yawn FTFA: There is not an option to simply say "No I want to stay anonymous." You're reading comprehension needs some work. That sentence is referring to reasons for not using your full name. You still have the option to remain anonymous. |

| Treygreen13 Look at any Fan Page on Facebook, especially for anything related to gaming. People say the stupidest, most moronic shiat even with their full names and profiles behind it. The idiots will keep posting derp. |

I'm already using my name for my channel. My name's Saberus Alain Jacobi Ferdinand Jasperi de la Terras. So Saberus Terras is my channel name. |

IrateShadow: I understand that you shouldn't have any expectations to privacy on the internet. Here's what I don't understand... I grew up in the 90s when AIM and Yahoo messenger first became popular, and my friends and I just inherently KNEW never to use our real names or any actual personal information. When did this change? |

I've got a book full of real names - it's called the White Pages. Do they really care which one I use? /oh, you mean *my* real name |

When companies figured out there was a lot more money in collecting demographic data than there was in serving up banner ads. That's fine for the companies, but what about the users? When did people decide that posting their real name, address, work, school and social information online for anyone who wants it to see is a good idea? /I have a snobby, nerd theory: it was the moment the computer and technology in general left the realm of the geek and was embraced by the MTV: Road Rules generation |

I grew up in the 90s when AIM and Yahoo messenger first became popular, and my friends and I just inherently KNEW never to use our real names or any actual personal information. When did this change? People still know that. It's blatantly farking obvious to most people that using your real name online is a terrible, terrible idea; even if you never do or look at anything that you wouldn't want your spouse/mom/boss/government to know about, you're dramatically increasing the risk of identity theft for no gain to yourself. It's companies that are pushing for this, as knowing who you are makes much it easier to target advertisements at you. |
||
| styckx Using your real name on Youtube is the equivalent of going to 4Chan, posting your docs and commenting on how much you love pizza. |

What we need is a way to forcibly sterilize Youtube commenters. Sweet Zombie Jesus, there is not a greater collection of mouthbreathing dumbshiats anywhere else on the Internet. People that unbelievably stupid shouldn't be allowed to pollute the gene pool. |

Rumor has it that local papers requiring a Facebook profile to log in have seen a decrease in contentiousness and trolling. I guess creating a fake Facebook account to show your true feelings on a subject isn't that obvious to some people. The more removed you get from local events though, the more anonymous you become, even when your real name is attached. While you might not yell at a neighbor from down the street, when interacting with a random person from across the country that you don't know and will never meet probably won't stop the Internet Farkwad Theory from being demonstrated yet again.. |
