In a down economy, tourism suffers. NV needs to diversify themselves and get some actual honest to goodness business. Casinos and Brothels will only bring in so much.

What that article isn't saying is that if you have a college degree in Nevada, you can find a job pretty easily (unless you are a teacher, a bunch of them got laid off). My husband's company has tons of unfilled jobs, because they require a degree for supervisors or managers, and they need engineers and IT/computer personnel. There are headhunters/agencies recruiting college graduates. My daughter is a sophomore at UNLV and is already getting internship offers. We still have a teacher shortage, but the government has cut funding to the schools so much they are laying off teachers when we have classrooms of 50 students in the public schools. That's one of the reasons we come last in education.

It's the service and construction sectors that are really hurting in Vegas.

I disagree entirely. NV needs to realize that NV is a stupid place for people to live and send their excess population to places with water. Setting up more industries there would just make the problem worse.

I heard tha the job market in Northern California is much better than SoCal. Any truth to that?

I remember walking into Las Vegas with no job and no money out of college. My wife got a good job in 3 hours, It took me about 8 days.
