Shoot, I thought that was intentional....Freudian slip maybe? Anyway, it works well.

Actually that wasn't expected news for me. It eeked out a profit thanks to the foreign market but I didn't think it was enough to greenlight a sequel. I hope they get to tell the whole story. They'll be pressing their luck if they want to make a third.

Can the movie really support a sequel? Her and the head meet their makers... and then head back to Earth? I guess I'm just not being very creative.

toddalmighty: who?

Damon was the writer for Lost. And part of the exciting revolution in television writing that essentially relied on recon as the cornerstone of their style. Mining the Internet boards, his team essentially wrote not a coherent story, but to confound and confuse the audience with the twists--twists that often relied on knowing full well the audience's conceptions, and then deliberately dashing them with a fluid and entirely artificial secret plot element thrown in. Lost relied on it. Heroes relied on it. BSG relied on it. It was a brand of lazy writing that set out not to tell a coherent story, but to confuse and "reveal" elements from nothing.

It is a style that some folks liked, but I absolutely despise because it sets out to keep the audience NOT guessing, but actively deceived. In a film, it's harder to pull off--since you can't just pull up chat logs for a week and then write around where most folks are guessing the plot will go--and that lazy style bit Prometheus right in the ass--because Lindelof relies on giant plot holes as of late, and forgot that he wasn't writing a weekly series, but a feature film.

Scott is as much to blame for not throwing that piece of sh*t script out upon first read. Approval of that script has shaken my faith in Scott as a director. Good that Lindelof is gone, but the damage is already done...

Casting Rapace and Fassbinder implied the plot follows them to the Engineer home world, where they
A: find them all dead and xenos running rampant, have to somehow kills them all.
B: find the Engineer world safe and normal and they have to plead for/deal for leaving Earth alone
C: Fassbinder tricks Noomi and steers the ship to near- Earth space, where Wyland-Yutani management looks it over at a hidden mining base. Hijinks ensue.

I was trying to kill myself so I might have missed some details, but I was under the impression that she and David were going to explore other worlds where the makers had been, NOT back to Earth.

Dear Ridley,

Prometheus was... not horrible, but also not very good (aside from the Rapace scenes). Maybe, you know, try not sucking this time, you know with the sh*tty big name Hollywood stars shoehorned in to appease the PR people, and the horrible "hip" dialogue, and a preponderance of fan service. Please also don't ruin the Blade Runner prequel. It's my favorite movie of all time.

Nonsense...limiting the options to only those things within "logical leap" range is not at all consistent with the first movie.

The plot holes and ambiguity really didn't bother me. When you're in the moment watching the movie, I really don't notice them or care as long as the movie is able to hold my attention.

What gets to me and breaks the moment is when people do things that if you've ever seen a horror movie, you know not to do, such as pet the alien creature. And add to that the stuff scientists would never do, like remove their helmet on an alien planet.

The guy had already established himself as reckless. The rest of the team was yelling at him not to do it at the time, if you didn't notice.

But, on the other hand, the chances of another planet having some sort of pathogen that could infect humans is pretty damn low outside of Star Trek stories. If the air is breathable, chances are you're good.

305 mil worldwide, prob 100 profit and that's not including merch, home sales and streaming/syndication rights. It's late opening in German, Japan, and China will push it over 333 worldwide, which will give it the crown of #1 film in the franchise, adjusted dollars. It's already #1 unadjusted.

eek must have anew definition. I hope I eek out 100-200 million this year.

Derp. You don't gotta like the movie, I don't really care. A lot of the complaints about it, though, are pretty stupid and basically show that people weren't paying attention.

/script definitely needed another editor or two before it was filmed, though, since so many things required the audience to grasp them by inference, and, well, film is a visual medium and needs to *show* the audience what's going on

Dont get mad because you cant follow a plot, I have never called anyone a retard for not liking this film but I will say dullards is a proper term since people that miss the point cant follow along with all the alien films and ignore the shiat after aliens.

Compared to the shiat they have released it was great, but I will agree it was a film that had more questions than answers by the end of it, I like those films that never wraps everything up in a neat little bow.

People expect this today in a michael bay world where his films draw audiences even though all his films suck.

You know what really sucked about ALIEN?

So they get to this planetary system and find a radio beacon they think is alien in origin. So the Captain decided to leave a trillion dollar ore plant in orbit completely unmanned. Aren't they worried about space pirates? I mean, Alien 4 showed us that the rim was crawling with Mercs...

OK, back to the movie. So they leave a very, very expensive platform in space alone, and now on the surface the Captain and the First Officer decide they're leading the away mission, and leave command to a lowly lieutenant communications officer. What is this, Star Trek?

So we leave the equivalent of a multimillion dollar cargoship without an officer in orbit, we leave the planetary ship without a command officer at the helm, and then the First Officer decided to play kissy face with obvious Alien biology.

Who writes this shiat?

Biggest problem with Prometheus is the first 45 minutes. After all the terrible actors/characters die, and we get past all the painful Alien/Aliens ripoff scenes, and we don't have to listen to anymore pseudo-scientificphilosophic babble, it's pretty good, just like the first two movies. Except for the parts that aren't so good, like the terrible captain scenes.

I love T:L until a little after they escape from the game grid. It's right about there where I realized that the movie wasn't going to deliver on any of the drunken promises or foreshadowing that it had been building up since the start. Typical LOST-style writing, leaving it to the audience to fill in the gaps the writers were too lazy or incapable of writing themselves.

But up until then it was pretty enjoyable.

My main problem with "Alien" is that the alien looks too much like a person in a rubber suit. Completely pulls me out of the movie every time its onscreen for even a moment.

My main problem with "Aliens" was that there aren't even a dozen movies that can even pretend that they are as good as Aliens in the sci-fi genre.

As someone that studies plot, story structure, ect., I can say with confidence that you have no idea what the fark you're talking about and berating the intelligence level of people that disagree with you is a poor way of trying to obscure that fact.

If I wrote the script for a sci-fi first contact type movie it wouldn't work as well.

First, there would be a surface shuttle and a contingent of heavily armored space marines to do recon. They would be trained not to open their helmets or run down unknown paths.

Actually, that would sort out the biggest problems with Prometheus. It was a movie about situation incompetence.

/Why the hell did bridge staff keep going on first away missions on Star Trek!

I really hope the people that didn't like the movie aren't going into TDKR expecting a good experience.

The general need to shut down the brain and accept huge suspension of belief, or the leap to conclusion mat that is all out in full swing in that movie. It's worse than Prometheus. Surprising, since Nolan's other batman movies were quite a bit tighter narrative wise.
