1. tetanus shots are you friend. that bridge was covered in more rust than a 500 pound ginger.

2. if I strapped a fisheye head cam on when I got out of bed and staggered to the bathroom every morning it would look just as scary, twice as sketchy, and take three times as long.

at the very end 3:10 you see white stuff on the surface of the water. it is detergent from washing machines, dishwashers, bathing etc... that hasn't dissolved. i wouldn't swim in it.

Look at the bracing or struts on the bridge as he approaches it and when he's on top of it. That gives you some idea of how much the lens distorts distances. Still, not a bad stunt.

I like heights, not a big fan of falling - I can make myself do it but it gives me the sweats. So being way up - on a roof or out on a girder is nifty - climbing a ladder to get there... not so much. The brain is a funny thing.

/I once got pushed off the flight deck during a swim call - roughly 80' drop. Long enough for me to yell: "shiat! you sonofabiatch I'll kick your assssss..." on the way down.
//watched the SEALS jump out of a transport flying ridiculously low with a super tiny drag chute to keep them pointed in the right direction - I have no idea how fast they were going when they hit the water but it was insane - how they didn't shove their legs through their hip joints, and/or three gallons of water up their ass is beyond me.

3 freinds and I jumped off this when they were building it. Right around a 100, depends on the tide.

pxsteel? more like ballsofsteel, amirite?

anyway...crazy...the highest I've jumped from was cliff into a river from about 20-25 feet. That was plenty high enough for me.

if I could go just one day on Fark without a typo or leaving a word out I think I might just pass out.

I can't really believe that I did that kind of stuff when i was a kid. There was the Aboretum in Seattle, a train trestle in Kenmore and one in Bothell. I don't think they were quite that high but you never knew what was in that water.

I assumed this was the Livermore Falls in Maine. Didn't know there was one in New Hampster as well.

Where are the head cam videos of people trying this and splattering on the rocks?

Those have to exist right? There can't be a 100% success rate on this stuff.

It's basic chemistry. It means there's enough other chemicals in the water that it won't dissolve anything else.

I wouldn't swim in it either, and I ain't cityborn.

Basic chemistry in which universe? Naturally forming organic compounds act as a surfectant and cause foam.

Even organic compounds from detergents would do the same thing, and has nothing to do with the amount of dissolved compounds in the water.

Foam? On a stretch of river without rapids? Ehhhhhhhhno.

Seriously, go back and watch the video... there's a lot of chemicals in that water... rainbow sheens galore.

Foam travels. With the current and stuff. Quite possibly from areas that you couldn't see in the video that were close by. You know, basic science type things.

So a sheen *on* the water means lots of chemicals *in* the water. Ok science man.
