Huh. I called it for Malekith to be the villain when they announced Mads Mikklesen joining Thor 2, but I thought he was going to play the role. Now i wonder what role he's playing, if he's still attached to the film.

Also, let's get Amora up in this thing since that would lead to an epic Thor/Executioner fight. Or at least Urik the Troll King, since it looks like Thor's going to be cruising the Nine Realms in this film.

Too bad he left to do more serious work, like Heroes and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

No, he had to bail due to other commitments. Too bad, but they got an interesting replacement. I don't think Marvel movies are going to have any problems attracting top talent.

I seem to remember a scene in Avengers where Jane Foster is mentioned. It's the scene between Thor and Coleson on the S.H.I.E.L.D. air carrier.

Coleson mentions that Foster has been reassigned to some remote location for her to work in safety, away from the upcoming war. They displayed an image of Jane on one of the monitors, and I distinctly remember noticing that it was NOT Natalie Portman. In fact, it looked like this girl:

images.askmen.com

Claire Forlani.

And yet, IMDB and Wiki have Natalie Portman listed as reprising her role in the next movie. Anyone know something I don't?

Hey, the girl from Mallrats.

As for IMDB, it's good for when you see a someone on TV and think, "who the fark is that? I've seen that person". But I wouldn't count on it for future movie news.

I like Eccleston a lot, and he's a big reason why I started watching New Who, and stuck with it even though Rose was...well.

Back on topic, Eccleston has some serious villain chops and I think he's a great fit. It's pretty funny how the Marvel movies have kinda lined up with the Americans as the good guys and the UK/Commonwealth as the enemies so far. Hiddleston as Loki, Weaving as Red Skull, Roth as Blonsky, now Eccleston as another baddie - I guess the exception would be the Iron Man franchise that has Bridges, Rourke, and Rockwell, but it's a very Star Wars sorta thing that the go-to bad guys seem to be British (or Aussie, I guess).

Portman is definitely back and she's going to Asgard. She will get to "meet the parents".

Yes and no. Yes for Ben Kingsley in IM3 and no for Dominic Cooper (Tony Stark's dad) and Jarvis being Brits. Oh, and Thor is an Aussie. Lots of good acting talent in the Commonwealth these days.

/Totally bummed that Tony Lau won't be in Iron Man 3

So is this one going to actually have some sort of story that serves as something more than a character exposé as a leadup to the Avengers? Will it have any sort of continuity with the Avengers movie? And if so, why isn't it just called The Avengers?

This is a terrific addition to the cast, but Eccleston is my Doctor so I'm biased. Great cast, Alan Taylor directing, the wheels can still come off if the script sucks. If the script is strong this could end up being the best of the second wave of Marvel features.

Meanwhile, the oldest writing in the universe is a note to him:

Accordingly, if the oldest question is "Doctor who?", the second oldest is probably the similar, "Who's this sweetie?"

That's some blatant plagiarism there.

FTFA: "If you don't know who Malekith is, your Hall H privileges at Comic-Con are officially suspended. He is a super-villain in the Marvel Universe, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. In the Marvel Comics, he clashed mightily with Thor, and will go up against the hammer-wielding son of Odin in the film directed by Game of Thrones' Alan Taylor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters."

From the first paragraph of Malekith The Accursed's Wiki article: "Malekith the Accursed is a supervillain in the Marvel Universe. He is ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim, and has come into conflict with Thor. He once wielded the Casket of Ancient Winters."

/revokes Mike Fleming's Hall H privileges at Comic-Con

Yes, yes, this movie will be soft core porn for gadian.. Both Hemsworth and Eccleston really do it for me, throw in Natalie Portman and we've got ourselves a sandwich I want to enjoy. Eccleston does make a great villian, but I think he's a little typecast because of his looks. He's also a great protagonist - Jude is still one of the saddest movies I have ever seen and he was hilarious in...I can't think of the name, the one where he's an accountant and has to smash the teeth out of the dead guy. Besides, he's still the most well-rounded Doctor we've seen in the Nuwho.
