Great video, but make a game someone has heard of... And after checking out their games, their ad seems incredibly hypocritical. |

Sinister Plans: Great video, but make a game someone has heard of... And after checking out their games, their ad seems incredibly hypocritical. It seems like they've sunk more money into their marketing department rather than Development. |

scottydoesntknow: Janka really needs to rethink their logo [cdn.uproxx.com image 650x360] is their logo really two dogs humping? WTF? I don't even know how that would get mentioned, discussed and then voted on to be a good idea. /Engelbert Humperdinck |

The Zynga parody is funny. So are the schlack that this company is trying to peddle as "real" games. |

Hyjamon: is their logo really two dogs humping? WTF? I don't even know how that would get mentioned, discussed and then voted on to be a good idea. Yep, something similar happened in my JA group long ago. Let's see, business meeting with no good ideas. Group needs a kick in the pants. Somebody throws this in thinking somebody else is bound to find it just wrong, which it obviously is, and counter it with something innocuous, like maybe a circle within a square. Surprise - people are in a hurry to vote yes on something and go clubbing, so they all vote yes. |

How can a company that makes games for Facebook criticize companies that make games for Facebook, casual games, commercial games, games for non-gamers, etc.? I was intrigued by this until I got to the part about what games they've made. Blech, I hope the Facebook game (and similar) fad goes away soon. |

Their games are terrible. Was interested until then. |

| Theaetetus Finally, the developer turns to Kixeye's interview. "What is best in life?" the developer is asked. "Is it to crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women? Well, that's a pretty good start. Because at Kixeye, we believe women are property. If you're male, feel free to apply for a job." |

I guess that ad works better than showing a bunch of douchebag brogrammers chained to a desk in a cubicle for 70 hours per week. |

FTA: They do this by focusing on making free games for the type of players who regularly buy in-game extras. There's a term for that type of person, help me out here... |

A have a few friends that work there and they love the environment. Sure...they are mostly making causal/social Facebook type games but you gotta start somewhere and right now that is the easiest target to hit. From there you can get to other platforms and see if the model will work there. Being successful in the social market VS the traditional market are two very different things. |

I was intrigued by this until I got to the part about what games they've made. Blech, I hope the Facebook game (and similar) fad goes away soon. Because their games are actually decent. It's not my cup of tea but they're a far cry away from the shiat Zynga pulls out. |

As an Apple user it may sound ironic to say this, but I do like the idea of not making things that your grandmother could use, to not even consider the grandmother. It's fine now, but I think, especially after the Final Cut debacle, that I'm going to jump ship from Apple before it becomes an "everybody and their brother" can make art lab. |

It's funny as a video, but as an employment advertisement It's weird to see an employer use such overtly hostile language with respect to women and potential female applicants. This is the sort of thing that would make an HR department sweat in most industries. There's a way to talk about drawing in players who want complex game play and complex controls without being so douche. I guess they're just trying to make their Facebook games seem cool to a certain kind of socially awkward programmer, but at the end of the day it's still a Facebook game. :/ Why would someone want to play microtransaction riddled/social spam games on Facebook instead of well-designed, solid PC games? I don't see how an RTS game could be better on Facebook. Does anyone know if these games are making money? It's always seemed to me that the Farmvilles succeeded because the kind of people who play them didn't have good alternatives... well, mobile games are closing in on Facebook games now. |

I graduated in December with a degree in CS and when looking for jobs, I considered the bay area cause alot of big name companies are headquartered there. San Fran is huge for software development, so many jobs, but there's not way in hell I can afford living there. |

Rent is high (but more reasonable in say oakland), and the state tax is high, but otherwise is doable. |

| OgreMagi perilsensitive: Rent is high (but more reasonable in say oakland), and the state tax is high, but otherwise is doable. The problem is the state government is trying to raise all taxes. Spending cuts never seem to cross their minds. We're already one of the most taxed states in the country, but that isn't enough. It will never be enough because of the politicians and the voters thinking every damn pet project, no matter how stupid, deserves funding. |

| poot_rootbeer Yes, I'd love to work 80 hours a week on salary and worthless stock options for a company run by people who think they're hot shiat because they make Facebook games, and where most of coworkers would be drooling morons because they're growing too fast to vet new hires adequately. |

I think Facebook is a platform where turn-based games could really thrive. Something like X-Com or Jagged Alliance, in a primarily multiplayer setting, could fit nicely on Facebook. It's not realtime, but if you're really into it, you could spend a fair chunk of time playing someone else. Or something like Warhammer40k, for that matter. |

bluefelix: It's funny as a video, but as an employment advertisement It's weird to see an employer use such overtly hostile language with respect to women and potential female applicants. This is the sort of thing that would make an HR department sweat in most industries. According to current and past annual game salary surveys, only 2-4% of game industry engineers are women. I realize it's fairly chicken-and-egg as to why? But at the same time, I can totally understand (if not condone) how a company could simply not care about turning off 4% of their potential hiring pool in order to excite the other 96%. |

| poot_rootbeer jaerik: I can totally understand (if not condone) how a company could simply not care about turning off 4% of their potential hiring pool in order to excite the other 96%. Assumes that everybody with a penis is excited -- rather than disgusted -- by blatant misogyny. Also shortsighted in that more than 4% of game PLAYERS are female, and having more females on staff could help them create products that are more compelling to that market. Imagine if Atari Inc. fronted like they were Sterling Cooper and it convinced Carol Shaw to go work in academics instead. |
