| vossiewulf mr_bunny: So what you are saying is that the military have copied a UFO and are flying them around? No, he's saying the lizard people have replaced all the humans at that base, hiding the originals in subterranean nests where the lizards suck out the humans' precious bodily fluids, and are brazenly operating their own UFOs now that the master plan is unstoppable. |
| Ennuipoet It's amazing, we live in a technological society where high quality cameras are ubiquitous, and yet still we have nothing but blurry dots purported to be UFO's. You would think just once we would get a high end DSLR photo or an HD video of something plausibly related to an Unidentified Flying Object. |

You would think just once we would get a high end DSLR photo or an HD video of something plausibly related to an Unidentified Flying Object. In all fairness, our technological society would be an absolute joke to an alien civilization that can traverse between worlds. If they use cloaking tech, which seems quite plausible, we'd be very lucky just to get blurry dots on record, if anything. I always found that line of reasoning to be somewhat silly. Do you think we could keep some remote amazon tribe under surveillance without them really getting a good look at us? Of course we could, using satellites, remote drones, hidden sensor/cameras. Oh, they might see a drone fly by once or twice, of might find a sensor disguised as a rock, but it's not like they would know who, what or why seemingly unrelated strange occurrences/phenomena/objects were happening. "Look, Trog! One of those strange birds again! I think the gods are watching us!" "You are crazy, it was a parrot or a reflection of the sun off of Venus." |
| Ennuipoet FarkinHostile: I always found that line of reasoning to be somewhat silly This is assuming, and it is a very large assumption, any extraterrestrial civilization is visiting us. (I am not saying there are none, just it is pretty unlikely they are in our neighborhood AND popping in to check us out.) I suspect any alien civilization able to visit us would take one good look at us and get the fark out of here, much like people do when they visit Mississippi or Alabama. |

You would think just once we would get a high end DSLR photo or an HD video of something plausibly related to an Unidentified Flying Object. Well, to be fair, these things don't really occur on any kind of schedule, people just have to react and snap what they can. On top of that, aircraft are almost always hard to really get a good snap of(Unless they are on the ground, or you're flying alongside them, of course.), it looks good to you, and ends up being a tiny speck in the pic when you look at it later. Not that any of this matters, did you see the shiatty camera that "amateur photographer" had strapped around his neck? I don't think he could get a decent pic of his own big toe with that garbage pile. I also liked how he was all over the video, talking and walking, but "wants to remain nameless". Moran. One last clarification: 'UFO' doesn't mean 'spaceship from Alpha-Centauri 3', it means 'Unidentified Flying Object', so if it was in the air, and the guy didn't know what it was, it's a UFO, not a 'purported' UFO... I still think this guy is as dense as a ton of lead, but I have to at least be fair on that point. |

The universe is 14 billion years old... There are hundreds of billions of galaxies... Each galaxy contains ~100 billion stars.... ~40% of stars have planets circling them.... It seems pretty silly to assume that we are the most technologically and evolutionarily advanced life form in the universe. It's also very arrogant to assume and narrow-minded to assume that interstellar travel is improbable, merely for the fact that we ourselves can't achieve it. Could it be an alien? Yeah. Could it be a military aircraft? Yeah. Are we wrong a lot, and do we not know a lot? Yeah. Stop pretending you know all the answers to everything, and you can enjoy the humility and mystery of being a human on planet earth. |

It's also very arrogant to assume and narrow-minded to assume that interstellar travel is improbable, merely for the fact that we ourselves can't achieve it. Anything is "possible", but extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Sorry, a blurry photo of some vague little blob is even farther from extraordinary than Earth is from the nearest other habitable planet. Before we can get to alien spacecraft, we have to rule out other, far more probable explanations. Military aircraft. Civilian aircraft, for that matter. Atmospheric phenomena. Photographers taking the piss. We don't even know what all of the Earthly explanations *are*. |
