Jim Henson made the right decision in not pursuing this.

Yeah, Wizard of Id would have a few days' strips in a loose story arc, and it seemed like they just strung a few of those together into a script, then gave it a lame ending.

Wow, they managed to make something freakier than the puppet kingdom from Mr Rogers Neighborhood.

"The King is a fink!"
"Sire, the peasants are revolting."
(King sniffs the air)
"I'll say they are."

That was grim. The 'that was the punchline' music gave it that extra touch of misery.

It's as if Schopenhauer had been a muppet.

Exactly as bad as the comic strip. It makes sense if Johnny Hart wrote it...that guy wouldn't recognize humor if it bit him in the ass. It sounds an awful lot like he wrote the script, because Henson and Co. would have made it much funnier.

I was thinking the same. It's right up there with "Beetle Bailey", "Hagar the Horrible", "Marmaduke" or the English wife beating drunk "Andy Capp".

This maybe the only thing that was produced by Jim Henson that was completely unwatchable

Too true. almost so bad I almost think he did it bad on purpose. Then again, it was 1969. He was still doing things just for the money I guess. Sesame Street just started and The Muppet Show was still years into the future.

the time frame had nothing to do with it. If you look at some of his work that was done in the late 50's and early 60's, they are really well done, albeit strange.

Yeah, but they were more independent works. I bet there was corporate/studio oversight on this. None of the characters are his. Someone owned the rights. They probably wanted a nice safe show. So we a are getting their vision not Henson's.

Now that I think about it. That probably had the makings of being funny as a cartoon, especially with better writers.
