You ever notice the folks that screech "American Exceptionalism" the most are the ones trying to get rid of all the things that have made America exceptional in the past? Things like plurality of thought, scientific progress, integration of foreign people and cultures, respect for other ideologies... Sure we haven't shown all of those things all of the time, but when we've been exceptional, it was because of them.

America wasn't born exceptional. Neither was Gabby. Both had to work hard to achieve it. But some folks think that the US was born in some kind of national manger with manifest destiny angels all around and we are always exceptional, regardless of how base or arrogant we act.
