Well that article was certainly full of new and interesting insights J&Y fought a lot They spent a lot of time in bed She bossed him around He wanted to be an artist She had a crappy voice Dylan turned the beatles on to weed How did this stuff stay under the radar all this time? |

The sucking in of air after speaking is a Japanese thing, not just a Yoko Ono thing. It's not done all the time. I understand it as a cue saying without saying "that's difficult, I don't really know if I can do that for you ... something along those lines. |

Even by DM's standards, that has got to be one of the most poorly edited exerpts I've ever read in my life. |

Ah, late-era Beatles. A cautionary tale of you don't need to bring your woman with you everywhere you go. |

Not sure why y'all clicked the link to bash everything in it. If you arent interested, skip the link. The interesting take away for me is something i read a couple years ago. Maybe it was obvious to all: yoko didnt break up the beatles at all. John did, by very purposefully placing her in every scene. On some levels here, yoko is a victim. Of course she followed john... He was a charasmatic guy guy who was also the biggest star on earth. We demonized her unfairly... Which is easy to do after seeing how she sold his name down the river for every merch opportunity. John broke up the band because he felt it was his band and paul was taking that away. I'm only 40, so i missed the boat on this era. |

Except to add that John was in such a drug induced haze Paul had no choice to take charge after Epstein died. And yes... If you don't like the Beatles you don't like music. EVERY major talent since will cite them as influence. Even a guy like Ozzy who is a HUGE Paul fan. |

I am saying that their talent, innovation, and influence are overblown. Your sentence is a perfect illustration of it. The idea that without the Beatles time would have stood still in the music world is patently absurd. It's baby boomer masturbation and navel gazing. |

| jake_lex Yoko Ono takes far too much blame for breaking up the Beatles. The fact is, that process had begun long before she came along. I think a much more important factor is the death of Brian Epstein. He'd always shielded them from the business side of things, and when he died, the arguments about the money and direction of the band began. Especially when Lennon brought in total scumbag Alan Klein. |

SpectroBoy: Babwa Wawa: People still give a shiat about the Beatles ? Only people who understand music and recognize their influence. It's like walking. Being obsessed over the single simple act means you miss the fact that there are people sprinting faster and and running further than we ever thought possible. I never got over the neuroticism of those who just seem unwilling to dwell in that mindset....listening to the White Album with the same sort of self-satisfied grin they give when they're alone in the car and dish out a solid round of Starbucks-laden flatulence. Christ.....even John Lennon was tired of his own material. |

Yes I like the Beatles but not so herpy derpy and single them out as the only influence of pop culture and the music of that time. BTW That Questions about asking why the hate, was for Gunther to answer. But I do like your honest answer. |

Freschel True but I also add other bands that also made an impact during that period. Groups such as The Rolling Stones From the Stones' Wiki: During this tour the Rolling Stones recorded their second single, a Lennon-McCartney-penned number entitled "I Wanna Be Your Man"; it reached No.12 in the UK charts. LOL - and Clapton followed George Harrison around like a puppy dog (also stole his wife but that's another story) |

Freschel: gunther_bumpass: Freschel: Babwa Wawa: Freschel: Why the irrational hatred for the Beatles? Please enlighten us And this is the same old tired argument that's been used against every successful groups out there. It's a tired argument because you farkers just can't let go of the fact that the beatles are half dead and what remains is an overripe collection of mediocre 40 year old pop tunes. The 1964 equivalent of a modern beatles fan would have been the sad old git in his basement listening to his George Formby records over and over and over while decrying the collapse of all things aurally right and decent. John Lennon himself would have kicked your dorky ass. |

John Lennon himself would have kicked your dorky ass. It's demographics. The boomer generation hit its stride when the Beatles hit - timing. The boomer generation gets catered to because of its purchasing power. The Beatles led the boomer generation through its phases - from doe-eyed pop idols to pot-fueled hippies to disillusioned middle-aged hipsters disgusted by their own excess and success. Many boomers thus identify very strongly with the Beatles. That's so many of them react so rabidly when faced with the opinion that the Beatles' influence and talent is overrated, and their enduring popularity due solely to the fact that they were the most popular teen band of the boomer generation. Very little is about the music. I'll grant that it was evolutionary, but not revolutionary (like jazz, etc, etc). But you simply can't tell a fan that, because marketers have been telling them otherwise for 50 years. For the boomers, all culture springs from their generation. And marketers will continue to tell them that because boomers hold 80% of the wealth and spend over half the discretionary dollars in the US and Europe. If the boomers came of age in the 1980s, we would all be taught that the most influential and talented musicians of all time were Madonna and Michael Jackson. |
