And that's why you didn't get any traction in the GOP primaries, Gary.

That's fine...fark the GOP, he's got my vote and the GOP will never get it so long as they continue to force their brand of social conservatism on this country.

The Libertarian party has always stood for individual liberty. Which is why they support gay marriage.

Well yeah. For as much as the GOP pretends to be all about individual liberty and whatnot, their actual beliefs are far from it.

I'm glad to hear him say this. It's sad that this is still considered a controversial stance.

Judge Jim Gray is his running mate. I doubt that Johnson will replace him.

If Johnson weren't a flat taxer and a gold nut, he'd be a pretty good candidate. Foreign-policy wise he's like Ron Paul without the racism.

I don't remember. It does carry a little more weight when a current president supports it though.

It is the consistent position if you value the Constitution. By dint of the freedom of religion, by dint of equality under the law. Supporting marriage equality should be an issue where the Republican Party should lead the way, but because of the knuckle dragging, Idiot Right, we have the a GOP with a scattershot platform that doesn't consistently follow any ideological basis, and that is why the party comes out as disjointed as it does. It has no ideological center any longer, only radical wings that push and pull it around like a mad gyroscope. Which is why I can't call myself a Republican any longer.

If you like the Constitution, if you like privacy, if you like equality, and you like the freedom to choose, then support of marriage equality is a no brainer. Sadly, the GOP has given up on anything like a Conservative basis, on anything like support of the Constitution, and instead is up for sale to the highest bidder, and because of this, we have a platform that is so ramshackle and mismatched. Ideologically, it is bankrupt, and the only thing lashing these conflicting platforms together are a Justification Machine of disingenuous "scholars" and pundits trying desperately to keep the plates spinning and hoping that centripetal force will keep everyone on their feet, but only so long as they keep on the inside...

I wish Johnson was a viable have-a-chance-to-win candidate. I really like his views on most things. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a snowball's chance to win and the danger of a Romney Presidency is too great for me to vote for Johnson.

There's a real libertarian. It's not about federal versus state powers; it's about the rights of citizens to be protected from government abuses and overreach on all levels. It's about not legislating personal morality, so long as your actions do not directly harm others.

Wait til some Republican starts in on how employer-provided health insurance is a burden on American industry that makes it hard to compete in the world economy and we should replace it with a public system.

This is why we are plagued with shiatty candidates, because everybody has this irrational fear if the other guy wins. Just vote for the best candidate.

There would be so very little difference between an Obama 2nd term and a Romney 1st term.

I don't. Gary Johnson may have a pretty good civil rights philosophy, but on economics, he's straight GOP. Which is why I could never bring myself to pull the Johnson lever.

This. From what I've heard, I actually like this guy, but I'm not wasting my vote on a third party when there's so much at stake.

If he really wants to enact change, wouldn't it make sense for him to drop the Very Silly Party and join one of the big two instead?

This assumes that the people who voted Nader would have voted Gore in sufficient numbers had Nader not been on the ballot.

The Bush/Gore count in Florida was 537 votes.

97,488 people voted for Nadar.

I'm thinking that yeah, some of those people regret the decision.

Unfortunately, that's probably true. The rich may pay a percentage point or two more in taxes under Obama.

Either way, we'll probably be at war with Iran within a year or so, though Obama will try to make it more like Libya, while Romney would just repeat the Iraq War. There are enough differences to make Obama the better choice, but they're really not that far apart.

That said, the main threat from a Republican president would be a simultaneous takeover of Congress. If the teabaggers are able to pass even a fraction of the legislation they really want, the country will go down in flames.
