So no more commercials with that smarmy douche with the molestache from Die Hard 4? Sad day for all.

That's an insanely loyal customer base. I don't think any other company anywhere could claim that. Maybe the Marines, but that's outside the scope of this discussion.

So these new Apple ads pandering to the lowest common denominator of computer users, touting "pre-loaded apps" are just my imagination? Also of note, "pre-loaded apps" were a legitimate reason to hate Microsoft and PC vendors for the last decade, and it amuses me to see that shiat now presented as a positive.

It is a bit pervasive.

I hope networks and newscasts are at least getting paid. I can't understand why they'd give away so much free advertising.

Bullshiat. I have a MacBook and iPad and Zooey Deschanel was 70% of the reason I upgraded to the 4S when I did.

Why, yes I'm lonely.

So, no more ads with Zooey asking Siri if it is raining while looking out the window and watching the rain?

Their owners are heavily invested in Apple.

I always wonder if Apple gives every show a real laptop, or if they have some sort of made-for-TV mock-up version that just lights up like a real one.

That and the fact that Retina displays are god damned gorgeous.

I own no Apple products and that's unlikely to change, but it's hard not to be a bit jealous of those screens.

It's easy to get your dot-pitch up when you keep packing more pixels into the same 2007 screen dimensions.

They are when the app in question supports its resolution. Which is generally not the case.

Ironically, they get a lot of free advertising from tools like Submitter, posting crap like this on Fark and other similar sites.

This is the part of the conversation where I admit that I've only really seen a Retina display for like 10 minutes. I don't own one and I've no interest in spending significant amounts of time on someone else's tablet.

Is it that the app just doesn't take advantage of the resolution, or is it like being on an Android tablet with a phone app and nothing is the right size?

I use both iOS and Android devices. It takes some developers a little more time than others to update their apps to Retina-display quality, but it's not nearly as pervasive as all those Android apps that are just phone apps running on a tablet. Or all those apps that ran fine on ICS that are broken or don't even bother running on Jelly Bean.

They forgot the buzz created by an exaggerated atmosphere of "secrecy" and a rumor mill that plays the exact same scenario for every product rollout.

it's actually extremely clever.

It not hate - it's a generalized disappointment in humanity. It's rational thought vs the lure of the shiny.

There's nothing rational about iHaters parroting anti-Apple slogans pumped into their empty heads by some other company's PR department.

And ironically, that pretty new Galaxy SIII is selling very well to the same people who crow about Apple people buying shiny stuff.

Except that Apple spends tons of money on advertising. They're called Apple stores and they're in every major city. Yes, I know how profitable they are, but it would be cheaper to sell products online or through stores like Best Buy. Part of Apple's success is having these stores in highly visible locations and paying premium mall rents for them.

How is it those commercials make everyone look like assholes? They managed to make Sam Jackson uncool, Zooey more annoying than cute, John Malkovich creepy as hell (okay that one wasn't the commercial's fault) and one of my favorite directors, Scorsese, I want to wring his farking neck now.
