Yup. It's also the reason Detroit is actually not as active in terms of drive by shootings and the like. With only 706k people in the city, it can't support that many street gangs. They're also not rubbing elbows with each other due to the low population (for an urban area) of Detroit. When it's a 20 minute drive just to reach rival gang turf, things quiet down.

9/10 - you've got the claim that banning all guns is reasonable, that gangs were abiding by the gun ban, and that the Supreme Court gave a thumbs up to shooting anyone you want, and that Chicago is actually abiding by the court ruling. Only thing missing is the bad grammar.

I was just on jury duty last week in C(r)ook county. Got a case where the defendant was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle. He claimed the car tried to run him down but the bullet holes were in the rear of the car. No self defense. This was his third felony gun conviction. He was out on parole when he performed his latest stunt. Clearly somethings not working. Legal citizens have to jump through hoops to buy and posses a gun but this mope just bought it from someone on the street. The people shooting up Chicago aren't buying guns legally. They'll get them wether there's a gun ordinance or not.

I just want him to come back and tell my in his own inimitable way how people having to jump through incredible hoops to legally own a handgun, including registration and making yourself known to the authorities in addition to the onerous expense of doing so both in money and time, has increased gun violence in Chicago.

This may be racist, but when I went to Chicago this summer I was surprised to notice how much more ghetto the urban folk were as compared to So Cal. The urban folk in Compton seem so much more sophisticated relative to the midwest. Not sure why. . .

I propose a new way of keeping gang violence in check. Make gang violence a game. Kids like games right? Rules are simple:

1. For every rival gang member you shoot, you get 10 points. If they die you get 15 bonus points.
2. For every innocent you shoot, you lose 100 points
3. If the innocent is under 16, the members in your gang must enforce a penalty shot, where they get two free shots at YOU from 25ft. You also lose 500 points on top of the 100.
4. Gang members get to trade 10,00 points to the police as a get out of jail free card.


Gang violence will be eradicated by Christmas time.
