That depends if the fabric of the space-time continuum is good to eat.

Diabetes + Obesity = longer life? Yeah except that whole near leprosy like quality to lose the feet and toes.

It did for me. I was fine until I got fat. Now I wake up at random points on the space-time continuum. Why only yesterday, I woke up in a seraglio. Unfortunately, I was so fat I was mistaken for an eunuch. I had to put on a squeaky voice until it all went away.

When lean people get diabetes, it means something in their body that they really need to work right, like the pancreas, is dysfunctional.

When fat people get diabetes,it usually because they eat too much.

So don't be fat, and be lucky.

Well, if you view space/time as a sheet that was pulled tight with objects that contain mass creating dimples in the sheet. It makes sense that as the mass of an individual gains in scope so would their theoretical impact on the sheet itself. Eventually they get to the point wherein their own mass causes them to rip a point in the sheet to fall though to what's underneath it.

You fat bastards just keep shoveling those groceries into your chops, go right ahead. Hell skip the spoon and use a shovel.
I've been assured by my chiropracter that nobody ever died from a back strain from
LIFTING THE CASKET OF MY DEAD FAT FRIENDS.

Dead at 50? It's more common than you'd think.
So yeah buried three of my friends last year and a half.
They weren't thoughtful enough to be cremated.
Perfectly normal to weigh 250# at 5'6 right?

I hate articles like this. They'll be cherry picked and misconstrued by fatties to "prove" that they're just as healthy as the non-morbidly obese.
For a depressing read, check out a "fat acceptance" blog sometime and observe the following "logic":
- some morbidly obese people are healthy
- I'm morbidly obese
- therefore, I'm healthy

/sad, really

Except that the article didn't say that. It said that lean people who get diabetes are likely to be sicker (in general) to begin with so their prognosis is poorer. It makes sense, too. Some obese diabetics can greatly improve their condition by losing weight. Lean diabetics don't have that option.

In every fark obesity thread, there are always several fatties who claim that you can magically gain weight despite not eating; this already demonstrates a clear affront to physical laws, so why not just blow up the space-time-continuum while we're at it?

That's exactly my point; the article didn't say it, but somehow it will be twisted to "prove" that fat people are healthy.

Surprisingly, researchers found that overweight and obese people who get diagnosed with the blood sugar disorder tend to live longer than their leaner peers.

Peers who have also been diagnosed with blood sugar disorder; if you can them peers.

How do you get type 2 diabetes when you're lean? (or trimmer peers?)

Older people and people of Asian descent are more likely to be normal-weight when diagnosed with diabetes

So, maybe it's older people causing the data to show up that way?

Did they factor out age in the statistical analysis of the study? Medical journal articles are known for some really shoddy statistics and hopefully it's not one of them.

My grandmother lived until almost 90. Fat the whole time. We once went out to a diner for a Mother's Day brunch when she was in her early 80s. She finished her whole huge plate of food. We're talking diner portions. I think she was an anomaly.

Where are all the people who post the pictures of their giant plates of bacon, pulled pork, and ribs?

WHAR???

Why do they only come out in the vegetarian hate threads?

They can hate all they want. I've gone back to eating a "normal" American diet this summer while my wife and kids have been out of school (I haven't been doing the cooking) and I feel like I'm going to die. When I switched to eating a lot more veggies and fruit, and fiber to fill up--surprise!--I felt a hell of a lot better.

Dunno about the space-time continuum, but the fabric of trousers, canvas seats on folding chairs and cloth hammocks, definitely yes. Also, in certain circumstances, skin.

If I could escape the bounds of the continuum, however, I'd go back and make sure my infant and toddler self was fed like a normal child, with healthy foods in normal amounts so that my earliest memories wouldn't be of me being too fat to play with other kids and being called all kinds of insulting fat-related names. Also having doctors tell me I was going to die by the time I was a teenager and putting me on drugs that made me loopy and withdrawn.

But there's a reason why some fat people are like fit people in fat suits. Sumo wrestlers are like this because thy train just as hard as any athlete, but also train to put on weight. Some people naturally do this. Others may have a beneficial effect bestowed on them by a virus (specifically, Adv36) which short-circuits the function of the liver and fat cells so that instead of dealing with blood lipids the way they are in normal folk, they're stored in (typically sub-dermal) fat, meaning you get low cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood regardless of what is eaten, and with those out of the way and fat being usually shunted from around organs to around muscles, it is possible that their influence on other body systems being lessened lets those systems work better. In TFA, however, it is implied that obesity somehow results in mitigation of diabetes, perhaps buffering insulin levels or somehow keeping blood sugar or hormones more consistent, which apparently is relevant in longevity, especially of diabetics.
