I've had a couple of times when I couldn't pay a $165 debt, but the worst of those times were when I'd been laid off for four months and my truck had been stolen right as I was laid off and I had liability-only coverage, and unemployment insurance payments (which everyone here does pay while they're employed, so don't be too proud to use those benefits for the short term) were capped at a low enough amount that they basically paid just my rent and utilities, and my parents spotted me for food and ultimately loaned me a vehicle until I found work.

But I was single and had no children, and didn't engage in the kinds of behavior that could lead to children. Had I had children I would have maintained more savings to begin with.

I don't care what religions say, children are a burden and a lot of the suffering that children experience is directly attributable to their parents' reproductive choices. Having kids that they can't afford, whether one or many, is always a problem, and while it may not be the child's fault that they were conceived, no one born with a hungry mouth is truly innocent. If there's any veracity in the concept of original sin, it's not the sexual part, it's the necessary resources and competition for them.

There was a saying in my house growing up "What do people who can least afford a kid usually get? A kid.". I've nothing against children and those that choose to have them but it seems there are more than enough who reproduce without weighing their circumstances. I was very happy to find my wife (then gf) shared my views and chose to not have children. The sad thing is we could easily afford to but neither of us have the desire. It's a shame too since I have no allergies, very healthy, my wife is hot with no medical issues either etc. We'd probably have good looking healthy kids but, oh well.

But I'm surprised the thread hasn't already had the commentators who insist it is important that they have lots and lots of children and that they are doing us all a favour by producing "our future". I can see that each child is proof you had sex at least that many times, but no one really cares. If you like children that much, get a job in a day care centre.

Wait - I'm no expert on genetics. But it doesn't really appear that those kids all came from the same set of parents. There is at least one Indian and one Asian in that lot.

Not trying to be racist, but here in Milwaukee the black population many times try to have as many kids as possible while on welfare. Why? Because the government pays them more money based on how many kids they have. Do you think these poor kids actually see a dime of that money? Oh no, mom goes and uses that money to go buy drugs, cigs or booze with it. And because there is no incentive to get off of welfare they will be on it for the rest of their lives and probably pop out more children as time goes on if it means a bigger check. Crap like this needs to be controlled! This is when I think the government should step in and say no more than X number of kids based on your income or lack of income because TAX PAYERS are the one who take the hit in most of these cases and I don't know about you but I do not want my taxes increased to pay for some greedy crack whore's brood of failure.
