| make me some tea I think I remember reading that the easiest way to game the system is through absentee ballots. Interesting. Glad they caught it. |
||
| what_now Galvin said an employee in the town clerk's office allegedly changed the party affiliation of hundreds of registered voters from Democrat to Republican without their knowledge, and then cast absentee ballots on their behalf. So...treason? This is at attempted coup d'etat. Take him out back and shoot him. |

Voter ID would have prevented this... |

| FlashHarry well... i'm shocked. shocked, i tell you. |
||
| what_now NowhereMon: Voter ID would have prevented this... As an election monitor, let me tell you how your full of shiat. An absentee ballot is mailed in or dropped off at some point before the election, and it gets manually processed through the machine. At the end of the night, when all the other ballots are automatically tallied by the machine, the absentee ballots are then hand counted. This is why in a tight presidential race, you'll hear that they won't know an outcome right away, because three octogenarians (and me) are hand counting the ballots. You don't need a voter ID to mail something. |

Why is it the GOP biatches about voter fraud the most AND they are the ones who commit voter fraud the most? |

Tigger: This is still electoral fraud not voter fraud. So you have people change someone's political affiliation, that same person then gets an absentee ballot and fills it out as that other person, that same said person then sends in the ballot.....and you don't see this as voter fraud. WTF is your bright line rule that marks voter fraud?? I would love to know your wacko definition of voter fraud that doesn't involve someone impersonating a valid voter to cast a a vote. |

I think the difference he was pointing out is that this was a single election worker cheating, not rank and file voters misrepresenting who they were or whether they were eligible. I'm not certain the actual definitions he was trying to use really mean that. But that's the gist of what he was saying. |

| Ennuipoet Wait, what? I've been informed by reliable news sources, most of whom rhyme with rock blues that Voter and/or electoral fraud is perpetrated by dark complected people who vote Democrat. Clearly, this must be some sort of mistake or error More likely it is a plant committed by Sekert Muslin Soshalists! |

I can agree to that. I wonder which one is more dangerous, by many orders of magnitude, to the election process. |

What an interesting case study. The effect of voter fraud, where an invalid voter would assume a legit voter's identity at the precinct, always seemed to pale in comparison to something like this. In order to influence an election at the same rate that this clerk attempted to do, it would take hundreds of invalid voters to work together and steal ballots from voters who had not yet signed in at their polling place, with no picking a name that has already been used and triggering a red flag. That's a combination of collusion and luck that you can't take seriously. Yet, many states are pushing for voter ID laws and not trying to enforce the principle of least privilege, which would ensure safeguards against one person being able to pull this kind of fraud. |

| farkityfarker
If the GOP is trying to steal the Presidential race by voter fraud, they would be smarter to try in a swing state like Florida rather than an almost guaranteed Obama state like Mass. |

cretinbob: Why is it the GOP biatches about voter fraud the most AND they are the ones who commit voter fraud the most? Wrong. They biatch about voter fraud to distract from them committing ELECTORAL fraud. Republicans are scum. I wish the GOP would just farking collapse already so a new party can show up and we can have a *chance* of returning to a sane political system. |

farkityfarker: If the GOP is trying to steal the Presidential race by voter fraud, they would be smarter to try in a swing state like Florida rather than an almost guaranteed Obama state like Mass. It wasn't for the presidential race - it was for a tightly-contested state legislature seat. And agreed with some of the above - this needs to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent. And do the same to any Democrat who pulls a stunt like this. America simply can't afford to disenfranchise more voters. |
||
| clambam
By committing voter fraud themselves, repubs establish that it is a serious problem. Then they can use that as an excuse to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Democratic voters in order to prevent voter fraud. I am a Massachusetts residents but I'm lazy, so I'll ask here: any idea what kind of jail time this guys is facing for this crime? We're talking hundreds of violations here. Hundred of years of jail time? Thousands? Just curious. |

MFAWG: I really hope the GOP continues to spend inordinate amounts of time, energy, and money combatting an almost non-existent problem. Yes, really. Well, they did just pass a voter ID law in PA which would prevent up to 43% of Philadelphia registered voters from voting. So keep on hopin'. |

Galvin said an employee in the town clerk's office allegedly changed the party affiliation of hundreds of registered voters from Democrat to Republican without their knowledge, and then cast absentee ballots on their behalf. "There was effort here to steal voters' identities by enrolling them in different political parties and then applying for absentee ballots for them. This is like identity theft in a financial context. This is just as bad if not worse because people are trying to steal an election. The objective here was to cast fraudulent ballots. That's pretty extreme," he said. But hey, it's not like they're actually attempting a military coup yet. Jesus Christ, how apocalyptic and crazy has it gotten over there on the right that they can justify doing things like this to themselves? If you're willing to sacrifice the thing you love to protect it, you're doing it wrong. If you have to silence a lot of voices in order to restore your "freedom" and "honor" and "way of life" -- how threatened must you be by the future? The shape of the world is changing, and they think suppressing the vote is going to change it? Again, maybe I'm just a pessimist here, but my sense is that our democracy is so thoroughly corrupted that even truly good people are compelled to accept bribes from the extremely wealthy, and so protect their interest. Public financing of elections might address this issue; but at any rate until the situation is dramatically changed, our ostensible democracy will continue its slow dissolution by capital. This is a symptom of two things to me: first as a sign of that erosion reaching a certain psychic and social threshold, which perhaps amounts to a dangerous turning point in moral degeneracy and decay of the major parties. The other -- as less than nothing, one of many instances so far of various efforts to suppress the minority vote, which has been America's "truest" creed for so long it can seem contrarian and wicked to recount the sad history. How ugly and melancholy all this violence against the weak, the least seems to me today, at this late hour in history; what tragic and resentful passions must be involved to wish yet again to destroy their capacity for action... |

All I could find was that the candidate was endorsed at one time by Scott Brown and a comment said his girlfriend committed the fraud, for what that's worth. |
