You can get a next day passport. You just need to go to DC and stil around for two days, have an approved reason, and pay like a $200 fee. My husband got his that way when the change of needing a passport to pass to and from Canada went through. The place was full of families who were traveling up there and don't know until very late.

Not played in Canada (as the article states) and not been to Canada are two very different things. And considering he pitched for the NL Central since 2002 it is quite reasonable that his spot in the rotation just didn't come up in Montreal in 2003 or 2004.

If necessary he could probably get into Canada to start and back to the US for the next start, but it wouldn't be worth the effort. And his team won't even be going back to Toronto this year.

I don't think you technically need a passport to get into Canada. This so from travel.state.gov:

"If a U.S. citizen traveling to Canada does not have a passport, passport card, or approved alternate document such as a NEXUS card, they must show a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or expired U.S. passport. Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship."

Ahh, but if you are entering the US via airplane then you need a passport:

"When returning to the United States from Canada, it is very important to note that all U.S. citizens are required to present a valid U.S. passport to enter or re-enter the United States via air.
