$10 says he spends this time in LA, standing in the parking lot of Dodger Stadium, gazing wistfully at the park. |

| FriarReb98 Makes them saying that he was missing a start "for personal reasons" (at least I heard it that way last night during the Red Sox game) that much more comical. |

Dempster was born in Canada. He doesn't need a passport to go to Toronto only to get back into the states. |

Carth: Dempster was born in Canada. He doesn't need a passport to go to Toronto only to get back into the states. In that case, the Rangers probably should've brought him along. |

Considering he probably has an enhanced driver's licenses they definitely should have. It might have taken him an hour or two to clear customs but it shouldn't have been a problem. |

| Gwendolyn You can get a next day passport. You just need to go to DC and stil around for two days, have an approved reason, and pay like a $200 fee. My husband got his that way when the change of needing a passport to pass to and from Canada went through. The place was full of families who were traveling up there and don't know until very late. |

Not a passport issue, he had to go to California for a child custody hearing because he is going through a divorce. Evan Grant (the person whose twitter is used as a source in the article) is a bafoon who consistently gets Rangers news wrong. He is one the worst sports writers I have ever had the displeasure of reading |

I was like "hmmm, I have millions of dollars and 4 months off a year" I would make sure I had a passport because I certainly wouldn't be staying in the US the entire vacation.... |

Some people just aren't that conscientious. |

never needed it to travel to Toronto to play the American League Blue Jays unless the two teams met in the postseason Can anyone read that with a straight face? Cubs vs Jays World Series? MFAWG: Turns out he hasn't been to Canadialand since 2002 Link Must be some kind of legal issue up there. Not played in Canada (as the article states) and not been to Canada are two very different things. And considering he pitched for the NL Central since 2002 it is quite reasonable that his spot in the rotation just didn't come up in Montreal in 2003 or 2004. If necessary he could probably get into Canada to start and back to the US for the next start, but it wouldn't be worth the effort. And his team won't even be going back to Toronto this year. |

This smells. I'll always wonder if there's an outstanding warrant of some sort waiting for him in America's Hat. |

Its for a "personal reason"... and as a poster said above, most likely because of a divorce he's going through. |

I don't think you technically need a passport to get into Canada. This so from travel.state.gov: "If a U.S. citizen traveling to Canada does not have a passport, passport card, or approved alternate document such as a NEXUS card, they must show a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or expired U.S. passport. Children under 16 need only present proof of U.S. citizenship." Ahh, but if you are entering the US via airplane then you need a passport: "When returning to the United States from Canada, it is very important to note that all U.S. citizens are required to present a valid U.S. passport to enter or re-enter the United States via air. For entry into the United States via land and sea borders, U.S. citizens must present either a U.S. passport, passport card, NEXUS card, Enhanced Drivers License, or other Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI)-compliant document. The only exception to this requirement is for U.S. citizens under the age of 16 (or under 19, if traveling with a school, religious, or other youth group) who need only present a birth certificate (original, photocopy or certified copy), Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or naturalization certificate." |

If you're traveling on business and have proof of travel itinerary, I got mine in Chicago at the Federal building in about 4 hours, cost /not known for properly making sentences |
