Ultimately progressives and conservatives supported Prohibition. Quite frankly, by the time it got rolling, the only people who opposed the Amendment's passage were dirty foreigner immigrants like the Irish.

It didn't take long for some progressives to begin realizing that social engineering was a mistake and to begin supporting repeal but everyone was to blame for the thing in the first place.

I would adjust both of our arguments to be more specific: Nativists, Protestant religious leaders, Southerners, and Sufferagists supported the ban. Catholics, immigrants (mostly Irish and German), and a gaggle of others opposed it. Bonus points: the KKK supported it.

But this is America 2012, where kids are more likely to learn a lesson in big government and dream-crushing regulations.

If you're a parent and your childs lifelong dream is to grow up and sell lemonade by the side of the road, then you have failed as a parent.

And really - out of all the regulations you could center your biatching around, you're going to choose reliably clean food and drink? I thought this debate was settled over a century ago by Upton Sinclair.

Red states, and red counties in blue states, generally crack down on lemonade stands because they don't have the appropriate permits.

But liberals hate lemonade stands.

We need a war on the hyperbolic use of "war" when describing, well, anything. And I mean war in a literal sense. We need to call in some airstrikes and seal teams on that type of moronic hyperbole.

So I can now use the fact that liberals supported slavery, since we are going back 100 years?

All silliness aside, the day is really a commentary on the overburdensome state. When you have states requiring 100 hours of training for farking barbers, there may be a little bit of over regulation that is really just masking government revenue, because licenses are a money maker. It's gotten a bit out of hand.

Who says it should be? Oh wait NO ONE. you are just making up strawman arguments that don't actually exist to make your ideas sound reasonable. This is what the right does all day. They can't debate the actual ideas people actually have so the make up positions for them and pretend that is their position.

and PSST those things are in general licensed by the STATE government. WHY DO YOU HATE "STATE'S RIGHTS"?

So, if the kids were out there raising money to donate to Obama's re-election fund, keeping a local art teacher that was going to be laid-off due to budget cuts or a community activity at a local Mulsim place of worship then AT would ridicule them for pushing a Socialist agenda which the obviously over-paid and over-staffed local schools were brain-washing them with.

Would you like fries with that?

I can think of really good reasons why most professions on that list need to be licensed, in addition to basic professional standards.

Body Peircers (Infection, damage from screwing it up), Pest Control (Do you really want cletus running around shooting rats with a 22 or using DDT?), Product and home repair (Safety - I know someone who managed to wire their drier to the ground, could have been fatal), Private Detectives (Because they need to have professional standards and back ground checks), Pro Wrestlers (So they don't kill themselves or the person they are working with), Locksmiths (Background checks, think about it), Tour Guides (Avoid spreading misinformation, also so they don't take people on 12 hour bus trips in Arizona with insufficient water or anything stupid like that).

It's all fun and games until that same 2nd grader gives you hepatitis because they don't wash their hands after wiping their ass, picking their nose, and likely urinate on or near the preparation area. You're damn right I want them regulated to protect the public. Just because you're a 'small business' doesn't give you the right to ignore all kinds of health and safety issues.

So, to summarize: These girls had to leave the bright red state of Georgia to sell their lemonade in that bluest of states, New York. And, the blue-staters also award the girls scholarships on account of their boot-strappiness.

Oh, and also, no kids use "Lemons; sugar, and water" for lemonade stands, and haven't since instant lemonade was invented.

Every year - some idiot bureaucrat clamps down on some kids selling something, the public gets all outraged, "small government" types dust off their "big government" blog entries and bureaucrat eventually apologizes. Meanwhile tens of thousands of kids sell lemonade everyday without getting molested.

/false outrage is false
