Remember the swine flu a few years ago? Well, it's out of rehab and started it's comeback tour at the Washtenaw County Fair in Michigan

Had several cases at a county fair in Ohio, and they sent home a few pigs from the Ohio State Fair as well. I think, but not sure, that a couple of humans became contracted the disease as well.

I had that. It was awful. I've never been that miserable in my life. It was worse than alcohol poisoning.

The best part about swine flu was the months and months of discount bacon.

I guess it's time for a swine hunt.

But, you might not want to mention that to your German friends.

Ingham County has a large number of Mexican Citizens living there. Have they checked to see if the child visited Mexico lately as it is summer when many do go for a visit and parts of Mexico have been having swine flu breakout.

It's not as bad as H3NTA1 otherwise known as "tentacle flu."

h3n2-h1n1=2+1, or 3 to those of us who can subtract and add.

Try to avoid surprise math, it seems you are no good at it ;)

/it might be that h3n2=h*3*n*2 or hn6
//also h1n1 could be h*n or hn so hn6-hn=hn5

I`ll leave over there through that door.....

Aaaaaaand it's that why:

a) When I hit the state fair, I do it explicitly when the piggies are not in, and the dairy cattle and bunnehs are :D (Well, that, and an aunt-in-law who breeds champion Jerseys, but let's just say swine flu is yet another incentive to hit the fair EARLY)

b) I explicitly did NOT visit the demonstration farm (set up by the state so that they can show kids in the long-since-built-up parts of Louisville where meat and milk and eggs come from), preferring to go on the stable tour for the big farking horse show they have each year at the fair. (Besides, Saddlebreds tend to be less infectious :D...about the only things you can really get from horses are rabies, glanders and ringworm, and let's just say there are enough large-animal vets crawling around the premises that it's rather unlikely that a Pony of Nurgle would be infecting people for long at all. :D)

Now, if ManBearPig Flu has somehow crossed over to waterfowl or chickens or pigeons, I'm right well farked, but (again) fortunately my state fair doesn't show birds and pigs at the same time :D I just hope they disinfect the premises first...

The sad thing is, I'm not at all surprised that swine flu is "back"--flu viruses are mutate-y little things that like to swap bits with other flu viruses :D

One thing I did notice this year that I haven't in past--not only were they giving advisories on how not to spread piggy-plague as an official Fair statement but there were those alcohol-gel sanitisers everywhere--not just at the usual animal exhibits where you'd expect them, but outside the bathrooms, pretty much just about everywhere save for just outside the stand selling the Luther burgers (and even then, they DID have one right outside the "barbecue and beer" tent area).

It doesn't help much that there HAVE been outbreaks of Piggy-Plague Part Deux in Indiana and Ohio, both of which DID apparently have transmission to humans at the state fairs...and we DO have enough folks showing livestock from Indiana and Ohio that there is a non-negligible risk they could bring it here, assuming it isn't here already and just not detected yet.

/had the last Piggy-Plague that went around
//do NOT care to repeat the experience, seeing as I had not had flu since I was four and then two novel flu viruses hit in as many years...meaning I had pretty much completely forgotten how farking miserable flu actually IS and how much it kicks your ass
