| LordZorch While I think Lucy wouldn't think twice about a little muff diving, Salma most likely only does group sex with men. |
||
| FirstNationalBastard If he had only killed a regular person no one had ever heard of, odds are he would have been out on parole already. |

| rynthetyn Mark David Chapman is the most famous person to have gone to my alma mater. They'd always talk to us about how we were supposed to go out and influence culture, but the biggest influence on culture of anybody from my school thus far was making sure the Beatles could never get back together. |

It would seem that it would be in his best interest to remain in custody. Wouldn't there be people that would want to be the person that killed John Lennon's killer? |

If I was Chapman, I would deliver this speech at the parole review and then fold my arms: There's not a day goes by I don't feel regret. Not because I'm in here, or because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try and talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can't. That kid's long gone and this old man is all that's left. I got to live with that. Rehabilitated? It's just a bullshiat word. So you go on and stamp your form, sonny, and stop wasting my time. Because to tell you the truth, I don't give a shiat. |

Parole him? Sure. Right after Charles Manson. |

Well besides that whole having killed someone thing, that smug smirk look in the article mugshot gives me the "I'm going to shoot you" vibe. |

Just think, if he had shot some poor nobody schmuck like subby instead of Lenin he would be out on parole by now. |

I hope he gets out of parole and proceeds to have a threesome with Salma Hayek and Lucy Lie just to spite subby for his stupid headline. |

If he stays in prison, he's just as likely to be murdered by a fellow prisoner. And even if they manage to keep him isolated, he could still get murdered by a guard. Lennon has friends everywhere. |

You're not supposed to say the man's name. He only killed Lennon so he could be famous. If you make him famous you're giving him what he wants. |

He killed someone, once, let him out to live the rest of his pathetic life, Lennon was a rock star, not a world leader. Oh by the way, did you know the guy who shot Reagan is out on parole, granted he didn't kill the president, but it was an assassination attempt on the sitting President of the United States, and he's out on parole. The world, and it's priorities, just so strange. |

It wasn't a he caught his wife cheeting so in a fit of rage killed her he killed someone he didn't know and planned to do it in advance. You could argue that he was crazy, the guy who shot Reagan did and he went to a mental hospital. Arguably the guy who shot Lennon should have too or he could have done it in Texas where they would have executed him even if he was legally retarded. |

His release and the resulting news frenzy would be bread and butter for reputable and especially disreputable media. Someone would probably take a pop at him. If he survived, the hand-wringing camp could play tennis with the 'someone-should-finish-the-job' camp indefinitely, and his shooter would be catapulted into controversial fame. If he died, you'd have endless retrospectives, meditations on the justice system, alien conspiracies, and eventually a TV minseries. Journalistic integrity aside, it'd be win-win situation for the media machine. |

Journalistic integrity aside, it'd be win-win situation for the media machine. It happened over 30 years ago. To be honest, I doubt there are a lot of people who care any more. Half the population or more was either not born yet or was too young to remember it. Yes, maybe some nutjob would take a pop at him, but considering the consequences I think it's pretty unlikely. (Though I'm not advocating one way or another whether he should be paroled. I'm completely neutral.) |

farkityfarker: It happened over 30 years ago. To be honest, I doubt there are a lot of people who care any more. It would still be big news. Boomers still outnumber pretty much everyone else, and coverage would definitely play up on the nostalgia factor if it happened. There'd also be foreign audiences, especially Asia, where anything western pop culture-related garners big attention. Hollywood today is all about mining nostalgia for maximum gains; something like this probably wouldn't be any different if it happened. Plus, if their youtube volume is any indicator, the Beatles are still firmly entrenched in public consciousness, whether they deserve to be or not. I'm neutral as well, incidentally. |
