Ladies and gentlemen... Car Tyre Yobs! (wild applause) |

| buzzcut73 Meanwhile, in the States, they'd have been beaten, tased, and hauled off to jail. The incident would remain on their permanent record(TM) and they'd have increasing difficulty finding a job any better than night janitor at a porn shop. /Go war on crime! |

Yobs made to put air back? Can they be made to Burberry back as well? This almost sounds like "police" work, OMG socialisms, why do these cops hate the job creators who construct and staff prisons? |
||

I personally think they should have been arrested, charged with disorderly conduct and let the people deal with flat tires. It wasn't the cops problem. /It would have been much better for revenue enhancement. |

Well played indeed, it makes a pleasant change from the usual disproportionate response. A tyre is a ring-shaped covering that fits around a wheel rim to protect it and enable better vehicle performance by providing a flexible cushion that absorbs shock while keeping the wheel in close contact with the ground To tire is to become in need of rest or sleep; grow weary. Just so you know. |

They definitely should have been tasered afterward. |

And while we're on the subject, where does the confusion about the first floor come from? ground floor, that's where the ground is, and the floor that's on it. first floor, that's the first floor above the ground. and aluminum? |

I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. The police judged the suspects guilty and sentenced them, this is a bit scary. On the other hand I am sure those young men are glad that an isolated booze fueled lapse of judgement did not have worst consequences. |

"Officers advised the offenders that they needed to re-inflate the tyres and they escorted them to the supermarket to buy a foot pump. Inspector Les Fry of Dorset Police said: "This is a good news story showing offenders recognising that they had made an error, wanting to put right the inconvenience caused by their actions. The two men who returned are remorseful and have done as much as they can to help the police to put right their wrongdoings." |

Tyre? Tired? /facepalms |

I would not have wanted them to come back and continue messing with my car. They could overinflate them, hook up the pump crooked and blow out the stem or otherwise damage the stem, or who knows what. I would rather do it myself. Plus it would give me a chance to check if the wheel was damaged (eg. bent from sitting on the ground; tyre could be damaged too). |
||
| Bob Able
If I came out of my house in the morning and found my tyres deflated I would curse, examine my tyres for other damage, re-inflate my tyres and carry on. It would be an inconvenience and nothing more. As opposed to the damage caused by a tyre slasher. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4a2_13 45042905 Described as (warning: a bit graphic) |

| BarkingUnicorn I was waiting at a bus stop. Some cougar in a BMW parked in the space reserved for the bus, got out, and waltzed into the bistro right across the street. Yeah, I let the air out of her tires. |

First, massive props to the officer in this incident. All of us who beat up on police for being walking penises need to be willing to praise someone who goes out of their way. Second, I really don't understand. Are we saying that someone can learn not to things again if we don't put them on trial and then in jail with the taxpayer footing the bill? I was under the impression all of our ethics and morals are determined only by the negative implications as constituted by law. How will these men know what is right or wrong if a for-profit jail isn't housing them for at least 2 or three weeks? Doesn't this mean that this police officer hates capitalism, and by extension, Christ himself? |

Bob Able: and aluminum? Bob Able: And while we're on the subject, where does the confusion about the first floor come from? ground floor, that's where the ground is, and the floor that's on it. first floor, that's the first floor above the ground. and aluminum? Point 1 You don't start counting with zero, which is basically what you are doing by calling it the ground floor. Guess what the FIRST floor you walk on when you enter a normal building? Sound like it should be called 1st floor to me. Point 2 That is what the Brits and the US agreed to call it originally. Then you guys decided to change the name so it sounded more like other elements(IE ending in IUM, like that matters). It was called Aluminum by first, even by you guys. Arguing for fun, love Brits. |

Tellingthem: Psssh kids these days. In my day we pulled the valve stems... Best revenge on a bad land lord I ever had was watching her come out to her car and realize all four tires were flat because I cut the damned stems off with a pair of bolt cutters. She evicted us illegally. 1 day notice and the cop sided with her because she lied about how long of a notice we got. She got away with it because we didn't know any better. I was 17 and knew nothing about renters rights. |

talkertopc: I'm ambivalent about the whole thing. The police judged the suspects guilty and sentenced them, this is a bit scary. On the other hand I am sure those young men are glad that an isolated booze fueled lapse of judgement did not have worst consequences. Every time the police arrest someone they need to judge whether or not they think the people they are arresting are guilty of the crime they're arresting them for. There's nothing wrong with that. Being judged innocent or guilty of the charges in a court of law is a different matter. As for sentencing them.... you're only assuming that's what they did. The drunken "yobs" may very well have confessed and offered to restore the tires when confronted by the police. The two parties negotiated what sounds like an entirely reasonable course of action forward that everyone agreed was the best, and in the end no one was harmed. How is this not anything but an example of policing at its finest? There's nothing whatsoever to be afraid of in this story, unless the prospect of people all acting like civilized human beings to correct some mild drunken mayhem is something you fear. |

Like I said I was 17 and didn't know any thing about renters rights or the eviction process in general. This was in the late 80s in Portland Or. Young and dumb would have described me perfectly back then. I have aged and learned a lot in the proceeding 25 years. |
