mr_a: Nice to see that someone gets the idea of what Little League is supposed to be about. Yup, these folks get it. Wow, after spending a few hours on the always informative but often depressing Politics Tab this story really made my day. ^_^ /Gratz to the Hastings All Stars who beat Mexico in their opener much to my delight. //Vancity represent! |

So let me get this straight. Uganda qualified for the Little League World Series before Wisconsin did? (Wisconsin has never made it to Williamsport.) |

mr_a: Nice to see that someone gets the idea of what Little League is supposed to be about. Yes, now if only the network broadcasting it did. /The LLWS doesn't need 100 hours of programming, ESPN //I don't need to see kids crying on my HDTV |

| Dumb-Ass-Monkey That's really cool. Here in Petaluma, we had a fundraiser to help the families pay their travel expenses. After 3 days, there had been enough donated to make sure that every expense is paid. All other funds donated, including the sold-out game showings at the local theater are, to the best of my knowledge, being donated to Petaluma Little League in general. Jonny Gomes, A's star and Petaluma native, has paid out of pocket to help the kids get new equipment for the LLWS. He also got the Giants, A's, and Comcast Sports Net to donate a combined $15,000 for the cause. I do love how things like this bring the communities out in force. Petaluma has always been a small town community, even as the population grows. We support our own. |

It's nice to see stories like this about Little League. This is what the organization is all about. Not the cheaters, not the boot camp practices that some of the organizations have, but good people doing good things for other people. For no reason other than because it can help someone. |

| MBK I remember hearing stories like this a few years ago about some international team coming to the US for the first time and being AMAZED at our grocery stores. Food, laying out in the open, just waiting for people to buy them. Never seen anything like that back in their home country. |

Food, laying out in the open, just waiting for people to buy them. Never seen anything like that back in their home country. I'm having a hard time believing how much they've played up the story. This Uganda team went to Poland last year and this year for the regional. I know Poland is not USA, but it's not a shiathole either. |
