You can tell what a winner the Ryan plan is for the GOP by the watching how fast their candidates are scurrying away from it

Although the article itself is well-written and factually correct, the headline couldn't be further from the truth. This teahaddi wannabe-congressman not only drinks Ryan's Kool-Aid, he's actively trying to sell it by engaging in an overt campaign of outright lying to the seniors in his district. That "pledge" of his is designed to make them feel at ease, that he's protecting their interests, when every unbiased analysis of the Rmoney/rAyn plan indicates that it will cost Medicare recipients of ALL ages more money from the first day. Add to that the fact that the right-wing plan to dismantle Medicaid means that the one in three seniors in nursing homes who rely on Medicaid for their housing, food, and care are going to be quite truly "death paneled", but it's not going to be Obamacare doing it.

It'd be really nice if the GOP didn't have to run on utter lies.

And I believe in individuals having the opportunity to pick their doctors and the opportunity to own their own healthcare. That's one. And then two, when you talk about these panels, you talk about ways to reduce costs. What you really hear is rationing and I think that's very fearful for the senior population.

Um, when you look at some other areas with a government run health care system like Canada, anything more than a common cold, yeah, you can have access but you don't have the quality of care that you need. I'm very fearful that they'll ration healthcare to bring down costs.

Good article.

Headline's a little wonky.

The GOPhers are not running away from Ryancare so much as they are reworking the narrative so that Ryancare saves Medicare despite doing no such thing.

The Ryan nomination did exactly what it was intended to do.

The week before when a Romney surrogate had alluded to the fact that that guy who got laid offs wife might not have died if they had lived in Mass. due to the awesomeness of Romneycare, the Right went ballistic.

Coulter, Limbaugh and the rest were sharpening the long knives. Remember? It was only a week ago. The Sunday news talk shows would have been all about the right not being able to trust Romney, "This was the moment Romney lost the election".

So we had a Saturday Morning, weeks before the convention announcement. Has that ever happened?

Anyway it seems to have worked, no one is talking about ditching Romney this week.

As opposed to bullshiat like, "you'll pay no more for my plan", and "if you like your doctor, you can keep him"? As for rationing, Obamacare is going to result in what, 37 million more people on the rolls, and they and everyone else will be entitled to "free" checkups, mammograms, etc.? Do you think the existing pool of physicians is going to be able to deliver the same level of care as before when it'shiat with all that? Rationing can be the only result unless you have a way to clone an army of new doctors.

If you believe your doctor is not giving you quality health care for the money you give him

Go down the road and find a better doctor for your money

You realize checkups and preventative care take up a lot less time than when those 37 million people have conditions that don't get looked at until they are in the ER, or worse yet it develops into a long-term health problem or serious disease. You also realize that you pay for their care through increased insurance premiums to make up for those that can't suddenly afford the several thousand dollar bill they incurred. You also realize that "rationing" already happens, but it's an insurance company actuary deciding that you are no longer profitable so you can fark off and die. You do realize that the free market you worship will respond to any additional need for doctors by increasing pay, which will lead to several factors such as increased people applying for med school, doctors and nurses staying in the field longer because of the temporarily higher wages, and med schools increasing the size of their programs which will pump more doctors into the workforce.

Of course you realize all those things. You just wanted to spout your bullshiat.

As someone who moved to Canada from the US, I can only guess that 'quality of care' means fighting against your insurance company to get care approved. And we had a so-called 'cadillac' insurance policy in the US.

And anyway, I thought half the people in Florida were Canadians. It's a good thing they're too polite to shout 'BS!' from the crowd.

And what they fail to comprehend is that these people STILL GET SICK. They end up in the emergency room for $1100 in uncompensated care, rather than getting a $200 fix from them having a doctor. They're so short-sighted they'd rather let them be sick and pay 5x as much.

For that matter, they don't understand that treating pneumonia costs a few bucks at the doctors office, but that same patient untreated will end up with a hospital stay of 3-5 days at, what, $2000/day?

They've got so much hate in them they really can't even look out for their own best interests.

"You'll pay no more for my plan"--

I'm a small business owner, and when I shop for health insurance I have no way of comparing one insurance plan to another because they're all 80 pages long and throw in some many exceptions and details its impossible to see which plan is a better deal. And that's by design. The point of the health care exchanges is to have insurance companies compete on an apples-to-apples basis, which they've never done before. Once people can shop based on accurate cost/benefit info the price will come down.

"Do you think the existing pool of physicians is going to be able to deliver the same level of care as before"

The Affordable Care Act is being gradually fazed in, during which time the demand for physicians will rise and medical schools will gear up to fulfill that demand. The free market at work. Demand was already going up as boomers are getting older and need more medical care.

I was assured by two Republicans at work Friday that there's TONS of free clinics all over the place that the tax payers already pay for so there's no need for Obamacare. Why, one even knew of one that was 50 miles from her house, that's close enough for a poor person to go to.

Ah, "rationing". I keep hearing that, Obamacare is going to lead to rationing. Here's a question: when you have a resource, and the demand for that resource outstrips your ability to supply it, access to that resource is getting rationed. When people can't pay for health care, that's rationing.

While I'm no fan of the ACA (I'm also no fan of the system it's a half-assed patch upon), its an attempt to manage the supply more efficiently and thus reduce rationing.

Don't Troll Me Bro!: jjorsett: As opposed to bullshiat like, "you'll pay no more for my plan", and "if you like your doctor, you can keep him"? As for rationing, Obamacare is going to result in what, 37 million more people on the rolls, and they and everyone else will be entitled to "free" checkups, mammograms, etc.? Do you think the existing pool of physicians is going to be able to deliver the same level of care as before when it'shiat with all that? Rationing can be the only result unless you have a way to clone an army of new doctors.

Forget the healthcare debate, what's really bugging him is the fact that A BLACK MAN IS IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
