| Because People in power are Stupid In an effort to appear unbiased, Newsweek wrote an article criticizing Obama. Because they couldn't find any actual dirt, they manufactured it. |
||
| Grand_Moff_Joseph If by critical, you mean chock-full of deliberate lies, blatant misquotes, fabrications, and impossible math, then yes, it was very critical. |

| ricewater_stool I'm a professor. If I made shiat up and published it, I would be fired in a nanosecond. |

| Marcus Aurelius The problem with being a Harvard professor is that people expect you to have at least a tenuous connection to reality. |

| Tor_Eckman
So a thorough dismantling of a blatant hit piece is now call a "panicgasm"? The things you learn on Fark. |
||
| FlashHarry ferguson outright lied in his piece. he should be fired, not just from newsweek, but from harvard as well. |
||
| Grand_Moff_Joseph Marcus Aurelius: The problem with being a Harvard professor is that people expect you to have at least a tenuous connection to reality. See, but they don't! the fact that they're teaching there means they've been brainwashed by the elite liberals! ;) |
||
| ManateeGag FlashHarry: ferguson outright lied in his piece. he should be fired, not just from newsweek, but from harvard as well. and from a cannon. into the sun. |

Anyone mention that he lied, yet? |

| FlashHarry reading the comments on the huffpo piece on this is a hilarious endeavor. not one of the pro-ferguson commenters is able (or even tries) to rebut the rebuttal. instead, they basically use the same line tardmitter uses. |
||
| MaudlinMutantMollusk Is it too late to get my renewal refunded? /this is ridiculous today |
||
| vernonFL The best part is that Newsweek doesn't have fact checkers. |
||
| Nabb1 vernonFL: The best part is that Newsweek doesn't have fact checkers. I bet they aren't the only news outlet that flies by the seat of their pants these days. Too much competition to get news out in a hurry. |
||
| AdolfOliverPanties If they fire Ferguson, they should fire whoever decided to make it the cover story. I understand wanting to sell copies, and if they thought it would grab some GOP non-thinkers, I understand that too. These are people who think Newsweek and every other news outlet besides Fox is firmly on Obama's side. But it is patently dishonest reporting and knowingly printing that shiat is what Fox does. Newsweek shouldn't do it. |
||
| Sensei Can You See AdolfOliverPanties: If they fire Ferguson, they should fire whoever decided to make it the cover story. And whoever printed the cover. And everyone at the paper plant. And every mailman who delivered it. |

Newsweek shouldn't do it. i'm sure they did it for the sake of "balance." they ran a michael tomasky piece a few weeks ago called "mitt the wimp." though tomasky's piece was well-researched and reasoned, i'm sure they felt that they needed to balance it with an anti-obama hit piece. |

| downstairs Newsweek isn't even news anymore. After their recent change in ownership, it was no different than People Magazine. We cancelled our subscription. |

| Lionel Mandrake Nabb1: Sensei Can You See: What, no charts? [i2.photobucket.com image 400x300] Also a big fan of charts. At least he had the good sense to show his charts on television. Debate moderator Neal Conan of NPR interrupted as Kucinich was challenging Democratic front-runner Howard Dean for refusing to acknowledge that the Pentagon budget needs to be cut. Conan told his listeners: Congressman Kucinich is holding up a pie chart, which is not truly effective on radio. |
||
| Nabb1 Lionel Mandrake: Congressman Kucinich is holding up a pie chart, which is not truly effective on radio. No way. And he's supposed to be one of our smarter Congressmen. No wonder this country is so screwed up. |
||
| Somacandra FlashHarry: ferguson outright lied in his piece. he should be fired, not just from newsweek, but from harvard as well. Presenting flawed and extremely dubiously (un)supported opinions is still not lying. Newsweek probably wanted Ferguson because he's a flamboyant attention-whore. Harvard won't care about some pop piece in Newsweek and his ideological fantasies of counterfactual history have already been well-criticized. |

He also wrote that in "Obama's America, nearly half the population is not represented on a taxable return. [...] half of us [are] paying the taxes, the other half receiving the benefits." yeah, because in the 3 years that Obama has been in office, he personally rewrote the tax code and let almost 1/2 the country off the hook. As of January 19, 2009 600% of our population was happily paying taxes(Many people were honored to pay as much as 1000% of what they owed), now that number is 47%, and it is 100% thanks to Obama. I didn't realize this until I read it just now. Truth be told, I can't believe anyone actually falls for this bullshiat, it's like they don't even bother to pay attention at all. |

| Doogles4221
I actually read this last night, and I cannot believe any respectable magazine would print this. Yes, it is full of lies, half truths, and horrible graphs. The "best" part is the author stating that all the economic gains have been on Wall-street, and none on Main street, then saying we need more supply-side ecominics... /no spell check at work, so flame away on the spelling //worst article i have read in years ///Slashies even hate it |

Mikey1969: Truth be told, I can't believe anyone actually falls for this bullshiat, it's like they don't even bother to pay attention at all. It's less "Falling for it" and more "Confirmation bias." |

were there NO good headlines that had referenced Newsweek's cover story "Obama must go". ? Seriously mods, none? None at all? They only thing we get is an apologist piece? Don't push me mods with this partisan behavior, I may ask for a refund. |
||

All truths about Obama can be proven to be lies. It's comes with being the anointed one. |

| YoungSwedishBlonde
Wanna write something critical of the President and not have it result in a "panicgasm" (whatever the f*ck that means)? Make it, you know, factual...something apparently the GOP has struggled with for quite some time. |

Sensei Can You See: AdolfOliverPanties: If they fire Ferguson, they should fire whoever decided to make it the cover story. And whoever printed the cover. And everyone at the paper plant. And every mailman who delivered it. It isn't Ferguson or Newsweek's fault. Those mailmen delivered the issues on roads built by the government. I saw the cover story on the intertubes which were totally built by the government. |

He also wrote that in "Obama's America, nearly half the population is not represented on a taxable return. [...] half of us [are] paying the taxes, the other half receiving the benefits." Hey Mr. Ferguson, quit your Harvard job, become a fry cook at Wendy's, and you too can live high and large in the half that doesn't have to pay taxes. |
||

There was one, that was greenlit, that got replaced by this one, and it linked to a HuffPo article on this, instead of an article from The Atlantic |

| t3knomanser 12349876: pay taxes. That's the thing that gets me. Shouldn't the people who benefit the most from the system contribute the most to the system? And if someone is only at the subsistence level of income- how much blood do we expect to extract from that stone, exactly? Isn't the real question, "why are we only paying people up to a subsistence level?" We're a fantastically rich society. The fact that any Americans are only operating at a subsistence level demonstrates a failure in the system. |
