| PC LOAD LETTER I remember those days. I am so frigging glad they are over. Between the disgusting subways and the horrible crime, the bad hair, and worse music, it was a miserable time to live in NY. |

| MaudlinMutantMollusk Warriors... come out and play-yay... |

| FreakinB I remember my parents, who had moved from Brooklyn to Long Island in the 80's, taking 10-ish year old me on my first subway ride sometime in the mid-90's. The trains you see on the video had been their experience, so leading up to the ride they were trying to prepare me for it by telling me how it would be dirty but it was nothing to be afraid of. Then a train pulled in with no graffiti, and it had clearly just been washed. tl;dr, I have one parent who's a big Giuliani fan |

| PainInTheASP Wow. You can almost smell the stale urine. |

I started to take NYC subways in the late 70's and don't remember any of them that was that dirty. |

Between the disgusting subways and the horrible crime, the bad hair, and worse music, it was a miserable time to live in NY. Graduated High School in NYC in 87, It was a great time to be in NY, music everywhere, Mars, MK's Nell's, the Limelight, the Tunnel, The Sound Factory, 10-18, The Palladium, rich Japanese girls and legal MDMA. |

I took a subway ride out to Coney Island in 1987, so I'm getting a kick etc. etc... I was pooped on by a seagull while I was there. Then as we were going from the park to the subway station we came upon a crowd gathered around a prostitute who was so strung out on who knows what that she just wandered around in circles, occasionally squatting down like she was going to shiat, then get up and stagger around some more. A large crowd of nice Brooklynites were just laughing and yelling at her, calling her a whore, while she just stared back at them blankly. Good times. |

I graduated in '89 and had to deal with the death throes of heavy metal, the ascension of Paula Abdul, that horrible remix of "It Takes Two" with "Wooo! Yeah!" overandoverandoverandover in it, and even the punk scene sucking as it tried to go metal. Alternative music was around, but if you weren't in college, you probably didn't know about it. I wasn't the drug type, but I will agree that if you were, it was pretty awesome. |

I think I caught crabs just from watching that. |

Until I saw that video, I never realized how pathetic and sucky an amusement park Coney island was. It shows up in some many new York-based movies, books, etc., that you'd never guess that even the worst Six Flags puts it to shame. |

miltonbabbitt: [img405.imageshack.us image 600x425] Beverly Hills Cop III and The Untouchables. There's a scene in The Untouchables where the elevator door open and written, in blood (I think), and across three panels of elevator trim or whatever is UN TOUCH ABLE. Cool, huh? Well I was watching the movie (on VHS, no doubt) with my GF and I was just WRECKED and asked her "what the hell does oon took hable mean?" That was almost 20 years ago, we parted ways since and are connected via Facebook, and she STILL gives me shiat about it /and I laugh every time |

Wow, I stayed a few weeks in NYC in 1987 but I don't remember the subway cars and stations being quite THAT graffiti-festooned. |
||
| DjangoStonereaver As bad as the city was in the Koch administration, the only time I was ever truly fearful in visiting was during the Dinkins administration. |

| damageddude SoxSweepAgain: I stayed a few weeks in NYC in 1987 but I don't remember the subway cars and stations being quite THAT graffiti-festooned I grew up in NYC and thought the graffiti was mostly off the subway cars by '87 but i guess it was just certain lines at that point /used to love that second motorman window in the front car when younger, now the motorman booth goes straight across //rarely rode the B but cool that they stopped at the subway stop by my grandparents at about 5:00 and then showed the street -- all those stores are much different now |

almandot: i hope that kid froze like hell on the way home also impressed on their meet-up-ability riding the train without cell phones. mind boggling. Yes, people actually had a functioning society before they were constantly sharing inconsequential trivia on a second-by-second basis. I also noticed an absence of lard asses. Wish he had spent more time looking out the window instead of talking to that tranny, though. I'm sure it's all Starbucks and cell phone stores now. I wanna go back! |

URAPNIS: What a farking shiathole. As a western states person that lives and works in a middle to upper-middle class suburb. Everything east of St Louis, except for the places too farking expensive to actually live, is just one shiathole after another. |
