| Forty-Two The Onion is all over this story. I actually like this article more: Pregnant Woman Relieved To Learn Her Rape Was Illegitimate. |
||
| kronicfeld It astounds me how amazingly awesome The Onion remains at satire, and how amazingly dreadful at satire every online imitator is. |

Just out of curiosity, have any FARKers actually tried to defend this douchebag, or claim that what he said is a scientific fact? |

| dugitman BronyMedic: Just out of curiosity, have any FARKers actually tried to defend this douchebag, or claim that what he said is a scientific fact? Not a farker, but the talk radio show in Indy(that leads into Rush) had their substitute fink on mic this morning. He was all over defending the guy and arguing with pretty much everyone calling in stating the obvious. I wonder if he'll change his tune tomorrow now that the GOP has completely abandoned Akin. In fairness, the guy sounded totally lost on a monday morning without having his talking points and spin pre-generated for him. |
||
| wee BronyMedic: Just out of curiosity, have any FARKers actually tried to defend this douchebag, or claim that what he said is a scientific fact? Why limit it to farkers? Anyone who tries to explain his authentic frontier gibberish as fact might as well be talking about Martians and the sun rising in the west. His statements are indefensible, because everyone gets the same set of facts from which to choose and his ideas are not in that set... Now that's not to say the trolls or the truly wacky religious types won't come out of the woodwork, but they aren't talking about facts either so just ignore them and go on about your day. |

| mrshowrules BronyMedic: Just out of curiosity, have any FARKers actually tried to defend this douchebag, or claim that what he said is a scientific fact? There was one. Trolling or not. He basically was justifying it. |

| Lsherm BronyMedic: Just out of curiosity, have any FARKers actually tried to defend this douchebag, or claim that what he said is a scientific fact? I don't think anyone has. Akin's story has made it even more difficult to root out the original source of the "claim", but The Atlantic traced it back to at least 1980, and Mother Jones traced it back to 1988. But the actual source may have been a misreading of a 1977 study (see 5th paragraph) about lower pregnancy rates during rape only due to the sexual dysfunction of the rapist. The idea that women can't get pregnant while being raped is an old idea - I remember in the mid 90's when a Southern congressman said the same thing, and it wasn't new then. You can read one bizarre reasoning here, although that's not the only explanation I've found on the web. It's certainly the off-the-wall, since it argues that women can't become pregnant unless they orgasm. If you keep digging, it's usually a variation on that theme - that since the cervix doesn't "dip" without orgasm semen can't enter the Fallopian tubes (this is what they claim). So by their backward reasoning, any pregnancy that happens as a result of rape is because the woman enjoyed it, and thus it wasn't rape. There's no scientific basis for this. It's almost as bad as creationism, except they managed to stumble on actual physiological occurrences, blend them together, and spit out this travesty of a "theory." |

It seems they're always on vacation for the really CRAZY stuff that goes on. You think they'd realize this by now and set up contigency plans. Sorta like have a minor league team for vacations where the host position rotates through different commentators each night; or they all do a five minutes of new-related standup. And if the writing crew is also on vacation, well, they've got experience with that situation as well. |

BronyMedic: Just out of curiosity, have any FARKers actually tried to defend this douchebag, or claim that what he said is a scientific fact? Not directly, but some people have "just been asking questions" about whether or not what he said is true about rape being unlikely to result in pregnancy. A few others have tried to defend his "legitimately raped" bit to suggest that he meant a variety of strange and sometimes mutually exclusive things. But no one has said outright that he was right. |

I know, why couldn't KTVI (the TV station that interviewed him) just wait another week to interview him so I didn't have to wait a week for the Daily Show/Colbert Response to this. But this is a legit vacation for them. They're heading down to Tampa to get set up for the RNC. |

wee: The last paragraph made me laugh. FTF Onion Article "Not only is this knowledge a blessing for me," she continued, "but it will no doubt bring great hope to the tens of thousands of women who are forcibly and savagely impregnated in the United States every year." So the solution to this is to just rape them anally! Maybe that's what ol Todd what thinking. |

I know the local wingnuts have spent the last 24 hours talking about how of COURSE everyone knows what Akin meant and this is manufactured and isn't Biden possibly unstable and real women care more about the economy than this stupid crap. Now that they aren't getting support, they are just having a massive spaz rage. |

That's funny, I had just read this article then clicked over to Fark. The more I think about this asshole, the more pissed off I get. How is he still running for office? Who in the hell supports this guy? I mean, I don't honestly believe that the majority of the republicans feel this way, so why hasn't he apologized for living and retreated to his compound? |

| The Why Not Guy
I checked out a Freeper thread on the topic, and I have to give the devil his due - they weren't showing Todd Akin much mercy, either. Their posts broke down into four major categories: 1. That was a dumb, offensive thing to say because it was dumb and offensive (I was pleasantly surprised to see this group very well represented) 2. That was a dumb thing to say because the Lame stream Media will twist it around and it might cost us the Senate seat. 3. We should have listened to Sarah Palin's endorsement. 4. We need to stay the course with Todd Akin and win the election (this was a small group, and included a few half-hearted defenses of his comments). Mr. Akin seems to have enraged a far larger swath of the country than I thought possible. |
||
| Mrtraveler01 gilgigamesh: Mrtraveler01: Like I said, she's a hateful bitter woman. Too bad. She's a very attractive woman. Yeah, I always thought the same thing. Then she opens her mouth and...I'm turned off. |
||
| Mrtraveler01 The Why Not Guy: 3. We should have listened to Sarah Palin's endorsement. The fact that they don't think Sarah Steelman wouldn't do something stupid is hilarious to me. The reason Palin endorsed her is because Steelman is practically a clone of Palin. |
||
| Mrtraveler01 New Tweet from Loesch (had to post it because it's funny): I like Ashcroft, but he wanted to cover up a statue's boobs. I dunno, I think the fact that he couldn't win an election against a dead guy is a pretty good reason of why he wouldn't be a good pick. Link |

However, they can't force him to drop out if he still wants to run without party backing or money. So yeah, the GOP dropped early today. |
