Nominee for worst use of the "ironic" tag so far this year?

RvP just arrived, has barely trained with the squad, doesn't know the system, and came on for the last 20 minutes when Everton parked the bus and Utd threw everything at them. So somehow, it's "ironic" that Utd lost by the only goal to another very good team playing their home opener?

I wonder if the fact that Utd have so many defenders on the injury list that they played a midfielder and a winger in the back four had any bearing on the outcome?

/By the way, how do Utd manage to have so many injured defenders before the season even starts? I'm beginning to think there really is something wrong with Utd's medical staff.

Ugh, 3 points behind with only 37 more matches to go...I don't know if they can handle it, I think the title is too far gone now. I mean, we're fighting a relegation battle at this point.

What a failure RVP has turned out to be...20 minutes on the pitch and he couldn't pull down a unicorn out of Fellaini's hair and ride it to glory of 50 goals.

/Fergie out!

This means that Arsenal automatically wins the EPL and Podolski gets the golden boot

It would only be ironic if ManU failed to win any cups due to having chronically injured defense, as he left Arsenal because they never won any cups mainly due to having chronically injured defensemen.

/seriously, when was the last time Arsenal had a healthy defense

No- shut it down today and give the trophy to Swansea City.

United do have chronically injured defense. Right now, Rio, Jones, Smalling, Evans and Da Silva are all out injured. There were two midfielders playing on defense last night. How it wasn't 3 or 4-0 boggles my mind.

Didn't see the match. Sounds like ManU's play matched its US stock IPO.

Don't feel too bad for them, they've made a CL spot.

Defence.

What bothered me is that Carrick was picking up Fellaini. Before his goal he was clearly the dangerman, why didn't a proper centerback mark him - Vidic?

Yeah, how does Vidic not pick up the afro-belgian on a set piece?!

I thought it was a very entertaining match and the atmosphere was incredible (such as I could hear from the broadcast), MU just seemed to lack that final pass to spring a clear chance, though Distan, Hibbert, and Jagnielka were huge. I would love to see Everton top the red half again this year.

You should be more bothered by the fact that Carrick is still wearing the shirt.

Scholes was worse than Carrick last night, and Rooney was far from his best. But Kagawa looks like the real deal, and Cleverly had a decent outing. Evra still sucks and Nani frustrates. But they will still be up top and in the hunt for the trophy at the end of the year, so enjoy it while you can Man U haters.

I think once Cleverley and Powell start getting more playing time, they're going to excel. Carrick wasn't playing his position last night, and he shouldn't have been marking Fellaini in the box at all. Fellaini was tearing us to shreds all night. Carrick is a great midfielder, and he'll shine this year, I know it.

Don't really know much about this Buttner character, but Fergie has a lot of faith in him.

van Persie will have to adapt if he wants to score more than 10-15 goals this year. No more Song and Walcott feeding him goals on a plate.

That's a cute idea that RvP is dissatisfied with OTHER PLAYERS being injured.

/Feyenoord fans used to call him enkles van Glas

shanghaistu: At the risk of sounding foolish, I think Anderson is the man to get more playing time and make a difference in the middle, not Powell. As for Buttner, I have faith in anyone that allows us to get Evra off the field. He is a liability, and has been for at least a year now.

While I feel as though Ando is going to have a breakout year EVERY year, he always ends up getting hurt. While it may be an unpopular view, I wouldn't mind getting Kaka on loan. He makes plays happen in the CM position.

I agree about Evra. Him and Nani are frustrating as all hell, but when they actually look like they want to play, they can be brilliant. However, getting rid of him shouldn't be a priority until the rest of the defensive squad is healthy (and stays healthy).

I propose a Fark Footy drinking game for every time someone makes this joke assuming no one here has heard it 50 times prior.

I say a shot of whiskey.

By all means, make the joke eight more times - it's been a long time since I got hammered on a Tuesday.

You mean the passing display by a bunch of guys standing around the box with no one trying to get into the area when someone finally had the gall to work in a cross?

To be fair, they probably printed the shirts that day. We all thought he'd be injured before the match started.
